Hi All -
Rebuilding my 904/999 automatic transmission out of my 1998 Jeep TJ. On my first attempt, the Jeep would creep in neural. I never checked clutch clearances on rebuild, so I pulled it out and I am checking now.
For my rear clutch (is this also called “direct clutch”), I can get 0.015” feeler gauge in under the selective ring. This is the flat selective ring. Clearance spec from FSM is 0.025 to 0.045”.
Two questions. First, I measured this with clutch packs soaked in ATF. I am sure if they were dry, clearance would be more. Is the measurement for wet or dry?
Second, my current selective snap ring measures 0.082”. So, I can probably put a 0.071” or 0.06” selective ring in and get the proper clearance. Anyone know a good source for these flat selective rings?
Thanks for any help.
