I am just curious, were there ever made factory roof racks for early/mid 70's A body Sedans (Valiant)? If so, how rare are they?
I was just wondering how my '74 would look like with a roof rack but I can't find anything online. I have seen some roof racks for 60's Valiant wagons but not for the sedans.

you could probably reduce the length of the round rails on a nice factory set up for a longer car, a early A station wagon set up might fit without alterations. I don't think the factory ever offered them for sedans. Challengers, which were "trunk challenged" had little racks on the trunk lid that would easily fit on your lid.

The old-style strapped type roof racks that utilize the drip rail are very hard to find and if you do find one they can run easily up to a few hundred dollars or even more (read that $500+). Mounting a permanent type would require drilling holes and through the trunk lid is one thing. Through the roof involves obviously much more thought. Newer vehicles temp racks mount differently because they don't have drip rails.

I made this one for my Mazda truck with gutters . Used the frame from an RV awning and some 3” flat stock.

I think that he is talking about roof racks like you saw on station wagons screwed to the car - an option from the factory, not something you take on and off to carry a load.
