A Body sport mirror?

I have found a drivers side chrome remote sport mirror from a Duster, but the chrome is 90% pealed off. I am wanting a set of painted sport mirrors for my Demon. So my question is, is there any difference in the painted and chromed mirrors and bases? If I buy this mirror and have the chrome stripped from it will it be the same as a painted mirror? should be the exact same. being chrome though all the pits in the potmetal will have to be filled in and sanded before painting. you will need to have them chemically stripped to remove the chrome first and then have the pitting filled to be painted....
