What is a good degreaser that will not eat my engine compartment paint. I think dawn soap will take care of most of it. But I got some heavier grease down low. I think even Gunk may eat the paint. It is enamel paint.

I would think that as long as it is not petroleum based it should have no effect on enamel. WD-40 works great on grease and won't hurt paint.

We use DX330 at work to degrease and prep parts for paint, it doesn't seem to harm paint in my experience with it.

I use mineral spirits, doesn’t seem to hurt the paint. Obviously would test an inconspicuous area first. Use it to clean motors with a siphon gun and it most certainly doesn’t affect the paint on them.

Any automotive wax and grease remover. I usually pick it up at the bigger auto swap meets, Carlisle, Englishtown and Nationals in Ohio. Usually about $15.00 to 20.00 a gallon.

now, it might not get the grease of, but you'll never have to worry about it touching the paint

Simple green 60% ratio works best for grease and oil. Really baked on stuff straight simple green, and rinse well. Griots garage glass polish has some solvent in it and also takes baked on stuff off paint easily.

Power washer and or brake cleaner. I've yet to have brake cleaner damage paint. That's the brake fluid's job.

For heavier grease in the engine bay, put some undiluted Simple Green in a spray bottle & let it soak. A couple of soft bristle brushes are your friend to get in the cracks & crevices.

Rinse well & repeat if needed...

alchohol works good. evaporates a bit fast for heavy cleaning, but great for light grease or final cleaning off residues from other cleaners.
