Hey All, Thanks for taking the time to read my post. And a BIG Thanks in Advance for helping me!

Ok Here we go, I have a 1975 360 Block. I'm the 3rd owner, I've never had the motor apart. Long Story short I replaced my timing chain. It was really Slack and I couldnt set my Ign timing properly. Ok I replaced it. And I still got a "Pop" out of one bank of the exhaust (I have headders) To me it smelled Rich but the POP ocurred in the Headder..(MSD 6al IGN and Dist) Leading me to believe a Burnt Exaust valve. So , I Yanked the heads today....

Here's the Pics....

The Casting # on the Heads is 3418915D / 04090

I have a Holley Vac Sec 750Cfm (outta the box) and an LD340 intake manifold, 15 year old Hooker Headders I think (1 7/8")

I do not know the cam profile, I will attempt to measure that soon (it is radical)

The car runs Track only...

So, Here's the Questions:

1) Are the Pistons in the pics Stock? That will tell me if I will dig deeper..

2) What Should I do to the Heads? Just a Clean n Valve Job? (I plan a future 408 build with this block)

3) Keeping the machine work and expense this go thru to a minimum What would you do?

I gonna Pull the Block anyway cause I have a new Verter like a 3500-4000

Right now, I'd Just like to have the 360 running well..

Gimme your Ideas n thoughts ! Thanks again !

It's been awhile since I've been in a stock 360. If need be, I'll compare it to a 360 I have as a core in the garage later if you wish, no problem. But they do look stock being down the hole a bit and with the slight dish without valve reliefs.

What you do to the heads? Are they for the 408 or for this engine just to run well? Try and clean'em up and have the valve seats reground.

IMO, I'd find out just how far down the hole the slugs are now and if those heads are for that exact 360 and not the 408, I'd mill'em a bit and use as is.

Looks like some unburned fuel issues, cam could be done?10 years is a long time 3 P.O,s different feet?HaHa.Best bet is freshen it up.A rebuild will give ya piece of mind.(if it,s in your budget?)If not check your cam.Happy motoring!

I do not know the cam profile, I will attempt to measure that soon (it is radical) ~ nutter problem... stock dish pistons + open chamber 70-72cc heads= so not radical cam friendly

1) Are the Pistons in the pics Stock? ~yes

2) What Should I do to the Heads? Just a Clean n Valve Job? (I plan a future 408 build with this block) ~no

3) Keeping the machine work and expense this go thru to a minimum What would you do? ~build a 408 w/ good heads

Gimme your Ideas n thoughts ! Thanks again ! ~that be my 2cents

Since you may not know who put the engine together and did change the timing chain, make sure that the cam is degreed in properly. Lining up the dots doesn't automatically mean that's the best or accurate position for the cam. But it helps to know the cam specs and manufacturer too.

That could affect the ignition timing too.

Stock DISH pistons have 2 lil notches toward the front of the engine.
Unless those pistons have 2 lil notches toward the front they are NOT stock.
I can't really see the in the pic that well but I'm thinking clevite/badger pistons

If you use those heads on your stroker[as I'm also doing w/410ci] you NEED to port them and widen up the the cross section in the process.
Think 2.02 or 2.05 intake valves also and if your buying new valves and guides may as well throw in some 11/32 stemmed valves.

Ok, They Have 2 lil notches in the frt so, I assume Stock Pistons/Block.. Now , if I wanted to throw 2k into it Maybe 3 , 4 , 5K.

Is the Vote a for a 408 Making around 550 hp?
