what is the difference in diameter between a 318 and a 340 torsion bar?
Actually, that chart is missing the standard 2bbl V8 bar size: Diameter .850, rate 101#, PN 2071624 (R), 207165 (L). I am looking at a chart of the OEM bars — I suspect the chart Bogie posted shows Mopar Performance parts. The spring rates on this chart are higher than the factory ratings for the same size bars, though I wouldn't worry too much about that.
You can also find .87 bars on later 318 A bodies with AC. Nice starting point with a front sway bar, especially an Early A.
And the descriptions are outdated as much as B&W TV's are...
wait a minute, I have a mopar also, how can you afford a color tv?
Yup, my '71 Dart GT and the '74 Swinger parts car I had both had 318's with AC, both had .87" "340" bars Yeah exactly! I wouldn't put anything less than 1" on a car that was going to see street duty, they call that a "solo and road racing" bar. Yeah right! I run 1.12" bars on my Duster and while it was set up for autoX it does just fine as a daily driver.
I have 1" on Dart but I'm upping to 1.08" bars from Sway-A-Way.
1.03 bars are the single best thing I did suspension wise for my car
love my 1.03 bars on my slant Valiant. drives So much better!
Funny...I was about to post the same remark! I run 1.15 bars in my '70 Charger and it rides about the same as the Wife's 2015 Challenger.
Me three ;) The 1.03" in my Dart are firm but not obnoxiously stiff. Just right for the low-deck in the nose
