Yep, Race engine. Prototype I imagine. There were some LA small blocks cast i aluminum as well. For road racing and sprint car.

No need for 1.03" T bars or even big block T bars with that thing under the hood. 340 T bars with that flyweight engine would be just fine. Would be nice if somebody started making aluminum 318 or 340 blocks

In a long ago issue of Mopar Muscle, there was a side bar editorial called "Steves Stuff" with Steve Magnante. He had one or two of these of these and also stated a production number of four. These were a prototype of a planned production change in the magnum production engines but was scrapped when development of the Hemi started. I myself feel we gladly could have done without the gen three for a good five or ten years just to have access to factory aluminum blocks.

I agree. Would be a cool pull-a-part hunt for those huh?

The new Hemi also helped meet emission requirements that the magnum motors were unable to meet.
Imagine trying to keep your engine hot enough to run? Aluminum engines loose a lot of heat on their own.
Most of us can not even keep our current engines down to 190f. LOL!

When PAW was in business years ago, they sold blocks and engines in aluminum in all domestic makes. Even Olds and Buick. I always wondered where in the hell they got the blocks from.

I wonder where all the tooling went. Probably in some Mopar Area 51 with all the rest of the prototype and decommissioned production equipment!

Good point on the cooling and emissions, the same reason most production all aluminum engines run 200 plus degree thermostats. I remember the PAW stuff. I believe the majority of it was made south of the border.

I've bought some small stuff from him. Read a lot of negative flap online about him. I take it with a grain of sand, because I've not had any trouble. He does have some high prices on some things.

That motor is still available. I posted that in a thread. If you go under Craigslist Boston and look up mopar parts in part section it is still there. Not for sale by me.

Somebody out there will pay 5k for it. It would be great if the buyer is the type that would use it to pull moulds to make more.

It would be interesting to see more photo's of that block. The front is not filled like the race blocks. I wonder if the pan rails and main webs are filled? If not I'm not sure I'd want to put a bunch of power on it.
