My 1964 Dart GT's carpeting is starting to show its age. Has anyone used other materials to cover their floor boards? I do recall seeing some cars at the Syracuse Nationals which had some type of rubber flooring material.

After what i saw i will never put rubber on a floor. Water accumulated under mat. It was like a kiddy pool when i pulled the mat.
Any water that finds its way under the mat never finds its way out.

My first 65 Valiant 100 had rubber floor mats and at 10 years old she had holes in the floor front and back on both sides. So bad I needed to put pieces of plywood over them so stuff wouldn't fall out. This was the second half of the 1970's when valiants could be had for 50 bucks and were still everywhere.DON"T USE RUBBER !

Most cars that I was in as a kid always had the rubber or vynil floor covering. That was the standard. Carpeting was an upscale option. So I had a dislike for carpeting - seemed harder to clean and in general not as practical. But I've come around a bit. Tooljunkie right. The rubber flooring can be as bad as anything that doesn't allow moisture out, if any gets under it.

Thank you for the advice, I am happy that I asked, I do not want to cause any rust issues. Therefore, I will replace with a good quality carpet.

Cheap crap carpet is just that , cheap crap . I used Lizard Skin , great stuff . Eventually I'll put carpet in . Please don't use the home center stuff . Most of it is asphalt based and you can never get rid of the tat smell.

Are you going to leave your car out in the weather? Drive it in the rain all the time? I know when I restored my 65 Barracuda back in the early 90's I never had it out in rain and it was always garaged. I sold it in 2007 after putting over 60,000 miles on it on nice days only and it looked as good the day it left my hands as it did the day I finished it. If you are going to do all this work to a car and not treat it like this well, you are kidding yourself . So,with all this being said,it really isn't about what floor covering you may or may not use, it's really about how you plan on treating your vintage car

I see you already put down sound mat so this won't help you.
I did my Dart with rattle can truck bed paint. If it was a keeper I had thoughts of taking it to a place that does color spray in liner like LineX. IMG_2004.jpg The car was done up in a bare bones fashion so it worked for what I wanted.

I`m thinking jute padding with rubber over would be alright. Airspace is key so it can breathe, at least that`s how I`m hoping how it works, cause it`s basically what I`ve done. Rubber backed carpet sections over jute, on my obsolete car.

Carpets Breath better... Even my "Mats" are Carpet Without the Rubber backing...
Rubber also holds in the ~heat~ and, ~heat~ + moisture = Rapid RUST !!!
                      Just my thoughts ...
