American shakedown: Police won't charge you, but they'll grab your money

So you see the article rather just the link ? It also happens when I post a video..

So you see the article rather just the link ?

Yes, and I read it. And it is indeed true.

It's also important to remember when crossing the border what amount of money can be carried in. I had a friend that went to the Windsor casino and won big. Their money was confiscated coming back into the US.

She had to open a bank account in Canada to put the money in before leaving, on future trips. She then transfers it electronically to her US account.

I think it was 11,000.00 dollars they took.

She fought it, and I think she got most of it back. She had to prove that she won it at the casino, and prove that she had stayed there for a couple of days. It took months if I recall correctly.

That is theft...pure and simple...no recourse ?

They do that around here up on Interstate 40 and yes, it is pure theft in my oppinion also.
They have an amount in thier heads that if you are carrying more than that they will ASSUME it is for or from drugs and confiscate it.
A total trashing of your right to be assumed innocent until proven guilty, and completely illegal. (but in the name of the drug wars they do it anyway)

It's the same with them being able to just accuse you of being a terrorist and removing your legal and personal rights as an American citizen.

I am SOOOO looking forward to the day when the **** finally hits the fan and the people tell our Government to "Piss off" over these kinds of things.

Probably won't happen in my lifetime though, as it will have to get pretty bad before the sheeple finally take notice and stand up to them.
We have a bad habit of not caring unless it happens to us personally.

I'll even go you one farther.
Did you know that if you pole any amount of American citizens you will get about 40% that say they are Athiest's, but only ONE US senator or House member say's he is.
Does this mean 99% of our Gov is Christian?
HELL NO, it means 40% of our elected officials are willing to lie before they ever get into office.

Remember the old story...
"When they finally came for me there was no one left to help me."
Because this is literally what is happening.

I think it is Alberta where vehicle "fines" are actually in the budget and are pushed up every year..

Now if the monies collected when to charity you see a drop in these BS calls..

I carry very little money with me and depend on my cards..but if we are pounding the streets of the US, I am going to make sure all our i are dotted and Ts crossed.

We have been to many different countries and our motto is "don't do anything to piss off the local cops".

We once watched 4 drunks kids in a rented jeep hit a bus in Mexico...what came to our minds was that this was going to be a very expensive accident for their parents..

I'd have to actually have a lot of money in order to carry it around in my car.

Which I wouldn't do, BTW, even if I did. The idea of carrying around thousands of dollars in cash seems ludicrous to me, unless of course you're a criminal. Which is kinda the point.

But you are still supposed to have the freedom to do so if you wish without being labled a criminal for it without due process and proof.
Which is totally the point.

I have a friend who went on a trip to another state to pick up a VERY expensive car and he had cash.
He got stopped for no apparent reason and questioned about where he was going with a car trailer and he told them.
They said he was probably one of the car thieves they were having trouble with and confiscated his truck, trailer, and all of the cash but didn't charge him with anything and let him and his wife go after hours and hours of questioning them both in separate "interview rooms".

They had to send home for the money to take a bus home, and it took him over 6 months to get a lawayer and have his belonings and cash released and he had to rent a car and drive a couple thousand miles back there again to get his vehicles and cash back.

All this with no due process, charges filed, or a court hearing.
Purely out of an accusation of a traffic cop.

"We The People" allow it.

So far we do.
That police dept actually had no idea what could have happened very easily.
My friend is a Kurd whos father and 2 brothers were killed by Sadam's forces and was removed by the US because he was deemed "a political refugee" because his Father was one of the top leaders of the opposition.
He fought on the side of the opposition from the age of 11 until he was about 30.

My friend actually told me he wanted to go back and show them what happens when you screw with a person for no legal reason and take thier livelyhood without any proof of illegal activity.
He asked me if the US constitution didn't support his right to defend his money and belongings with deadly force, and I told him it used to, but not anymore.
They would just label him as a terrorist and kill him these days, and feel totally justified in doing so.

But, I don't have a doubt in the world that he would have wiped out the entire PD in that Iowa town all by himself before anyone could do anything about it.
The guy was just like a wild animal when he got wronged.

Yea, I have a couple of shall we say... Unusual friends.

That must have made it to the wires..was talking to a bud in home depot today...and I was tal;king about Rving in the states and he said don't carry large qtys of money..and had a story similar to this..

He was talking about some town in the southern states that states on a billboard that they only take cards..no cash..

I expect to see folks rebel over taxation, price of gas, etc but they only *****...must be the Canadian way...

This "deal" with "suspected dirty money" has been going on for a VERY long time.

In the late 80's early 90's a then friend of mine and I roared down to "Portland Radio" from Spokane in his then new camaro. He was buying a new Yaesu FT-1000 amateur transceiver, at that time one of the "top of the line." At that time, with "options" it was in the 4000 neighborhood.

He had gotten his "mad money" from odd jobs, such as fixing other ham's equipment, etc. So he HAD about 5K or more IN CASH on him

I can still remember joking, "hope we don't get stopped."

"Why?"

"Two guys, 3 days beard, over 5K in cash in a fast camaro?"

Well we DIDN'T (get stopped that is) but I do remember bringing it up.

I see no way in hell this fits our constitution under any circumstances

A variation of this was going on in the 60's in Pa. Rt 611 had some towns that would pull you over, take you in to the local JP. It would just so happen the fine was whatever was in your wallet. In 67 I was stationed in Ft Gordon Ga, we were warned about the towns in South Carolina on Rt 1, same thing! The GI's would wind up in the local slammer till the AG came up to spring them. It's probably run a little slicker today but all the crooks ain't in jail.

In the fall of 69 I was sent to a RADAR school at NAS Glynco, GA. I think it was Waycross? was in the news. The AAA had put up billboards to watch for the cops there. A friend on the bas had wrecked his car, left it for repair, and when it was done, some of us made a "weekend" and rode up N to get it and drive it back. I can still vaguely remember going through that small town. You came around a sharp curve, on a narrow road, over a tiny bridge, and past a tree, maybe a weeping willow. Hidden "in" the tree was the speed limit change and soon after sat........the town constable.

Our drive knew all this, and he was going about 20 WAY before he got to that bridge.

A few years ago there was a stink over that in FL.

IIRC any amount over $3500 was automatically assumed to be drug money and was confiscated without respect to any other evidence.

IIRC several victims were never booked or even taken to the PD, jut given forms to fill out to request their money back and sent on their way.

The only way it made the news was a used car dealer making a bank deposit got jacked, and had money for a lawyer who knew how to use the media.

This has been going on for years. 34 years ago a buddy of mine and I were arrested in a small resort town for minors in possession of alcohol. We were taken down to the station and booked. They inventoried everything we had and then "fined" us $20 less than the total amount that we had between us. Years later I had a friend run a police record on me and nothing showed up. Oh yeah, they kept our cooler full of beer also.

Anything over $10,000 has to be declared. If it's declared you fill out a form saying where you got it or from where. If it's not declared it's assumed your smuggling it and it's proceeds of crime. You can get it back after filling out a bunch of forms and getting the place you got give you a letter.

This is at the border only. Not sure about the police taking your money.

"We The People" allow it.

Most people assume if they obey the law, they have nothing to worry about. Our rights are just a way for criminals to get away with crime.

I had the city of Olympia, WA extort money out of me. They said they'd file misdemeanor charges against me, but if I just paid them $100, they'd make it all go away. A bail forfeiture, they called it.
