I think you may be hearing the exhaust bonusing off the road. My van has duel 2.5" exhaust coming out in front of the rear tires and if I'm passing someone or in a tunnel (yes, we have a tunnel in Ft. Lauderdale), the sound is amplified. In your case, as your speed increases, the sound is left behind you, so others can enjoy your music.Yes.....Bassy. How do you get rid of it?
I paid big bucks for this system on a cruiser.......How do I fix it?
The Walkers is what I have been using for 50 years, and they have a soft sound, but deep rumble at idle or low speeds, but will open up when the pedal is touching the metal.these are what you recommended for me a while back. Waker 17748 Super turbos... still haven't gotten a chance to order and install them.. you have anything quiet you can recommend or are they the best choice in your opinion?
Google Helmholz exhaust & you'll see them for sale. Most need mounted next to mufflers. You can try a Helmholtz resonator. Takes some minor calculations and some fab work but have heard great things.
You could install resonators like Vibrant which should but but may not completely eliminate the drone.
Different mufflers, something with a straight through design. A lot of guys use Dynomax Ultra Flows. I felt they were too quiet, but didn’t drone. Many others out there.
OVERVIEW
I've noted these two mufflers from previous posts that are quiet. I still may buy one of these.
Walker 18113 has the same dimensional case length of an OE v8 A body Muffler and is 2 1/4" in and out.

Which one" AP or Walker? Thanks. I only heard a few videos on my quest for quieter mufflers. I'm on my 3rd set!i have a set of those not sure on the part number though) and they are horrible with the drone.
What about a resonator in the tailpipes? I really have no room in front of the muffler because the system is nicely tucked up high.standing wave in the exhaust
anything you can do to alter the length before the muffler will alter the RPM it drones at, for better or worse, trial and error really.
resonator achieves the same because its basically a muffler with no muffle, as it were.
its there to disrupt the standing wave so the droney-ness is reduced at the rpm you heard it at but hopefully its moved to an rpm where you don't care.

Borla Mufflers
This thing sounds like you are blowing across a bottle top from about 1300 to 2300 (is this drone?). Sound is the same cruising at 40 mph, as it is at fast idle.
Once you get up to cruise at 50mph and 2500 RPM you can hardly hear it, and what you can hear is awesome.
No sound deadening other than what came from the factory.
I would really NOT like to add the chrome extensions unless they make a night and day difference.
Any suggestions???
Yes!!!!What about a resonator in the tailpipes? I really have no room in front of the muffler because the system is nicely tucked up high.
you could use one there anything that alters the reflections of pulses in the system can change the situation.. but as i say could be for better or worse. What about a resonator in the tailpipes? I really have no room in front of the muffler because the system is nicely tucked up high.
Not that this is the way to do it but a guy I know would buy mufflers from local stores and slip them on with band clamps, test out the sound, and take them back if he didn't like what he heard.I was picking my third set of mufflers yesterday and watching videos.. the borlas (xs pros) sounded bad all around to me and i found others complaining of drone.. I ended up ordering Hooker Max Flows.. i found a chart of like 15 mufflers with db's at idle/2000/wot and the hookers had the lowest at idle/cruise.. which is good for me.
Cant' wait to throw away these last mufflers
Who wants mufflers on their Mopar that makes it sound like a late model Mustang.

yeah... i love the sound of the max flows in videos.. and mine being 3" will be a bit louder than the 2.5s i hear but should be ok...Those Summit "Turbo" mufflers i got really screwed me... ended up costing $2k chasing issues...
yeah... my car is usually around 2800-3000 which should be out of drone range...Nice sound. They sound great when he get's with the program but a nice mellow tone when just cruising. Drone at a certain rpm can be annoying.
