They should have promoted Bob Lutz to CEO after Lee Iacocca retired... :mob:

That @sshole Bob Eaton that they hired from GM Europe sold the company out within a couple years, took his bonuses and split.... :icon_fU:

Don't make a shit to me I will never ever be able to afford a new truck! Even if I could I wouldn't buy one. They just keep going up and up in prices and increasing their profit margins while bankrupting their customers! Idk understand how anyone affords them me a coworker was looking at them today. Gmc has a special edition Sierra 96k! Almost 100k for a quarter ton pickup that is stupid! Idk if I was a millionaire I wouldn't pay 100k for a new truck. 71 hemi cuda yes!!! New truck nope!

Couple this with the just now election and you can say done over stick a fork in it, we’re history and I mean us old guys and our hobby. Get out while you can. Now I feel how the people at the last turn of the century that were tied up in the horse business felt like when the automobile came on the scene.

More reason to buy the best 72-93 Dodge truck or van (not "mini" either) you can find and make it better, then drive the wheels off of it. If I had a couple of acres I'd be looking to buy up a fleet of them.but unfortunately I don't.

I don't care what brand you bring up. Each new generation is worse than what it replaced. I'd rather have a 94-02 Dodge than anything newer but I'd more rather have a 72-93 as a daily driver in today's world.
It is even more evident in the Dakota and Durango lines, the "evolution" that took place. I have had several 87-96 Dakota's, all have been great. But I hate the 99 that I have. Wouldn't give you a plum nickel for the generation after that.
Just as it is in the Fords and Chevy's. The last decent ford was a 97 and you had to get the heavy duty F250 at that. The last decent chevy was a 91, the last time you could by a new square body. 88-98 weren't terrible but not as good. 99 up? Forget it. Total junk. Common thing is the worse they are the higher the price goes. Seems backwards to me. In the 80s and 90s when base/clear paint came about the clear peeled but those trucks didn't rust near as bad as the newer versions. I mean what they aren't now making out of plastic that is. For what a new one costs they ought to guarantee without exception that they will not bubble and rust at all for at least 12-15 years, unless said truck works 24-7 in someplace like a salt mine or acid plant.
Which would be less than 1% of trucks on the road

all plumbing (brake, fuel, coolant lines) oughtta be pure stainless as well as the inner and outer rockers. Not talking just an overlay either (that actually traps moisture) for what a new truck costs all of this should be completely expected.

Nope. Buy up all you can, to keep it out of the dumpster and scrap heap. Then trade freely with other car enthusiasts "under the table" style, dare I say we may have to take our projects to "black market" status to keep it alive. As it is now it's bad, when I can go to a junkyard and get a used part with who knows how many miles it has or how long it has been baking in the sun or how waterlogged it may have been at times while sitting in that junkyard and put it onto my daily driver and still have that used part last longer and work better than a (so called) "equivalent" or "compatible" new part. I don't buy everything there at a junkyard, far from it. But parts that 10 years ago weren't worth buying there, are now worth pulling off twice and installing once (pull yours off, pull the one at the yard and put that one on your daily) and people wonder why I have so much"stuff" around here? I tend to stay with similar vehicles, ones that parts from my old ones will transfer to the replacement. And buy the best parts I can, drive my junk into the ground rather than trading yearly like some/ then save the good parts for the next one.
And I scout ebay for old "new" parts that fit my junk, parts with plenty of dust on the labels, parts more likely to have been made here before NAFTA and the huge sellout to places like China. Stuff that if it fits my junk, I'll buy 3 or 4 of something while the gettin'is good, even though I only need 1 today. OEM stuff and aftermarket.

I needed a 4 pin ecu for my 85 D150 when I did the lean burn ectomy on it. I found some OE, and some from old school brands like E-tron, Sorensen, Niehoff, and Blue Streak back when they were good. I got 4 aftermarket Mopar ECUs in a couple of days. One for the 85, one for when I get around to the lean burn ectomy on my 78 Fury, one for when the 40 year old original one left my son in a parking lot on his 80 D150, and 1 for a spare. If it's still here and I ever get the volare done I'll need one there too. None will go to waste, got them cheaper than the Chinese version at the local parts store, (that the parts sales idiot had no idea what the part does) and I'll be able to sleep at night knowing that these parts won't let me down any time soon.

The "Job master" ("MultiPro", GM RPO code QK2) tailgate is like a $7000 option. Just F'n lease it, beat it and trade it in if you got that money.

Job master tailgate? W T F? Never heard of it. A standard tailgate if you need a replacement for a newer one is ridiculous enough.
I know a guy who bought a brand new denali truck last year. Their tailgate is also a $7k option. He wanted an otherwise fully loaded truck minus 2 options and he ordered the truck as it was because he wanted a certain color. Add the fancy sunroof, that's like another 3 grand on those. The dealer said that the truck as he wanted to get, would cost him like $2 grand less than a truck that had what he wanted plus those 2 things. Yet seperately these 2 options are $10 grand if added to a lesser truck. So since they wouldn't lower the price of the truck he wanted by at least $7 grand without those 2 things he wound up getting a truck that had everything he wanted plus 2 things he specifically didn't want.

Its that funky tailgate with the 2nd smaller fold down, maybe a side hinge? and the foot holes and all that other BS. Whatever they call it. It ain't worth 7k. Just like the 2500 radio or the 3200 factory alloy wheel package. GTFO!

IDK why anyone has a problem with FCA buying Peugeot and becoming the 4th largest automaker in the World.

The Mopar we knew when we were younger died when it became K-cars and minivans in the 80s. Only since 2006 has it returned to its performance roots with the Charger and Challenger. Now under FCA we have the Helllcat and Demon pushing 700-800+ hp with true muscle car roots. Even the Durango and Jeep variants are being juiced up to high performance with high hp.

All things must evolve and this evolution still has muscle car performance in it core. Not all change is bad.

I don't have a problem with the types of cars they are releasing. I have a problem with the prices of said vehicles! Particularly the trucks! And it's not just fiat Chrysler! It's all manufacturers!

The old Chrysler died a little at a time. The Daimler purchase, when they quit making the original D/W series pickups and the Ram van, the phaseout of the LA/Magnum engines. The personnel changes, the slow death of Mopar Performance as it relates to the past. Getting out of NASCAR, after having re-employed some of the people that were involved in it when they last were involved. The stuff they’re producing theses days is just badges and cashing in on nostalgia. Just names, taking some styling cues here and there and milking it for all they can get. They way I see it is: I grew up on oldies, hard rock, British blues, etc, music from the late 50’s to about mid 90’s. Same with cars/trucks. Thats where I check out as far as Mopars, and most music, movies, tv.... this new shit (music and cars) is for the later generations. i can’t relate. And, don’t care!! :icon_fU:

Drive my 2006 Charger SRT8 6.1 Hemi with a Diablo tune and a 3.92 Getrag LSD and you will see what modern technology meets old school really means.

It feels like the old days, but with modern confidence...zero to in 3.6 secs, 12.8 sec 1/4 mile and stops in 110 ft from 60 mph with 4 piston Brembo brakes.

Yes, I have a ‘69 GTS with 400+ hp and a 3.91 LSD...but it pales in performance compared to the Charger. The Charger is a completely different beast and what the GTS aspired to be before technology allowed it to be.

If you have never driven a modern Mopar, you are just talking out your ass...

Nobody talking out their ass here. What you’re espousing applies to any manufacturer, slap any old badging on it and call it what you want today. Different company today than the one I’m talking about. Yes, running high 11’s at over a buck 10+ in the quarter mile in an old tin can vibrating echo chamber with drum brakes is a completely different beast vs doing that in any modern day car all snug, comfy and secure with the air on, tunes blaring. You got that right! :poke:

I got a 93 Lexus SC400, would wipe my old 273/4 in a 0-60 by 2 seconds and also in the quarter but its just boring doing it. Roll up the windows and you could have a hands free phone call while doing it and the other party would none be the wiser. The Barracuda is a lot more fun because there is still a sense of driver input, its not all drive by wire. The variable power steering feels the same at 100 as it does at 2.

It’s the same as riding a modern sport bike, or a modern Harley bagger (as an example) vs say an old Triumph Bonneville, Norton, vintage Harley or similar old iron. At cruising speeds and much higher you are really hanging on, vibrations, the sounds, the bare minimum bike under you vs. something modern. If someone has ridden both types they know. I’ve ridden modern sport bikes at 150mph, but doing 100 mph on a vintage motorcycle is definitely more involving and hair raising, and like you say, more fun
