So I have decided I like resurecting more than actually driving. I ended up selling my road runner to a friend and now I was in need of something to build. So scouring kijiji I found several projects from good deals to ridiculous pricing. I went to look at an 8 3/4 equipped 71 Swinger and it ended up being pretty rough. Lots of swelling, so I passed on it..........temporarily. While looking at it, and the parts, a GTS or 340 Swinger front clip popped into view. I decided right there I was going to go get a 69 I had been looking at. It is a /6 Swinger but is a great candidate for a bulge hood swap. I made and offer on the 71 and the clip and I will be going to get it today. Now the straggler. Yesterday I went and looked at the 69. It is yellow, with black vinyl top, column shift auto, black and grey bench seat, no head rests, early 69 black door handles and has the light package, No fender tag or build sheet. After digging around the car with a screwdriver, I found it to be very solid. It has some rust, but the 71 has some new panels coming with it. I got 4 doors, 2 from California and 2 from Washington, so that was a nice bonus. It has a spare trunk lid as it is toast. The grill is beautiful as well. The doors close like brand new, literally, and the windows function the same! It also came with a 67 4 door parts car. It doesn't have much but it does have a sway bar and good frame rails to donate later in life. This will be my next project, but it will be for sale as I will be looking for another as soon as it is ready to go.

that's one thing that stands out in my memory, is the way the doors closed on my 68 GTS when it was new. They closed so solidly, but quietly on mine. No window rattles or regulator rattles, just a perfect closure. I had many passengers, who after closing the door, would not think they were latched properly, so they'd reopen the door and slam them. Man, that would piss me off. The quality of assembly on that car was quite remarkable.

Yes it is. And I enjoy the journey. The old saying it's not the kill it's the thrill of the chase has always related to me. Here is the rest of the haul. Not very often you're gonna find a 70 fender converted to 72! And does any one remember a $50 70 Dart fender at the wreckers?!?! You all know what I'm doing right now!

Levelled out a bit with a jack so it's not sagging so bad! Poor springs. There's good ones on the 67

Even though it's a slant six car, this is one broadcast sheet I really wish I had! With all the writing and scribbling it would have been pretty cool. Maybe if I pull the headliner there may be one there. Even though it likely wouldn't be the same. :(

I agree, bring 'em back from the grave! Good save!! It is hard to explain just how much satisfaction can be had from the process. It does not need be a perfect, high $ resto to fulfil my need. ( I just need to keep the $ invested at the minimum, equal to value when it is sold. Yes it can be done.)
In the end, these hunks of steel and plastic are autos, and they are meant to be used and driven. IMHO

Well, If I find some 383 call outs for this hood I may clone a GTS. That's what I would like to do. Otherwise I will probably be looking for a 340. This car is in good shape.......for where I live and am used to!

Install a new trunk lid, sand off some surface rust and throw on some primer........looks a lot better. If this car was any other color it would have sold sooner. The first guy that looked at it in person, me, would see how solid it really is and scoop it up. Cosmetics really tell the story on this one!
Thank goodness for Sunfire yellow and sun fading!

I live for this! The pleasure I get from fabricating, replacing and seeing the result is unmatched. These cars need to be saved and as long as I am able, there will be one (OK, maybe more ) at my place!

It sure seems to me that you are having a run on sunfire yellow cars lately..........

I have a 79volare (Y1) that is probably bout the same as sunfire yellow. Totally rust free slant car, I have fixed the 6-7 tiny door dings, and it will get fresh paint this fall.. Y1 !!!! I love white but this bla colors grows on me even though I hate bright yellow Go figure!
If I offer it for sale as is, buyer could paint to suit, or NO matter what color I paint it, it will be wrong color, and all the idiots in the world will wonder what is under the paint!
I'm like gdrill, I love the fab, welding process, and I occasionally find some projects worth the $,, but I have got to where I despise the selling process, and I do not sell and lose $, never have,.... and I can not keep them all!!

Well, I'm going to keep this thread going with anything and everything I drag home. These are all just entertainment to me, as I love resurrecting the dead! Here is the latest. A 1972 Gold Duster. Nice car. White with snakeskin top originally. 318 auto, sway bar and that's about it. I think it came with Rallyes. Anyway, it's fairly solid, needing mainly quarters and some small repairs. Floors are solid so that's a bonus. I love making patches, really I do.

Next up, the repair that will make a huge difference. The tail panel. It will require a few small patches. It rusted though from the inside out. There was undercoating sprayed in and that trapped the moisture.

                                      Side #1........

                                        Will be watching.
I have a few to resurrect myself.parts are hard to find, and new parts are pricey.
I tried rpm and bought a few parts to break the ice. Not impressed,so they dont get any more of my hard earned money.

Im a low budget guy, more time than money.
My 76 has to be resurrected, i recovered it after it sat in a field for 25 years. My insurance still in the glovebox..
