I'd pay with a genuine U.S. Postal money order Paypal is not the cure all. Make sure you demand that the seller send the item "delivery confirmation" or "signature required." If the package walks off your front porch, with no signature, you have no case

COD costs considerably more than pre-paid shipping

I would never SEND anything COD, either. If you send it, and the buyer REFUSES it, YOU get to pay for both shipping and return shipping.

That is about what it is. When I had something shipped cod the carrier was able to accept a check. If by chance you are not home they will leave you a card, the same one they leave when they have something that needs a signature.....

thats what i was hoping they leave a card and i can go pay with a credit card. since i figured mail carrier wouldnt be allowed to carry cash. besides she NEVER knocks always just leaves a note. i think she has it prefilled out since i am home everytime she delivers something that needs signing

Method of payment is determined by the shipping party and unless things have changed credit cards are not an option. You don't get the package to open until it is paid for. They do accept cash.

They still accept cash? I doubt the mail carriers union lobbied hard for that responsibility. Postal MO worked good for me the one time it got messy. the crackhead roomie stole it and cashed it, seller claimed it was never received. I put a trace on it and it came up cashed 5 days after I sent it. The endorsement sig on the recipients claim form and the signed MO that USPS faxed to me didnt match at all so the USPS sent me a check for $460 bucks..3 months later. Both parties need to work with each other so dont burn any bridges when the buyer claims he never got the MO. Just roll with it until he sends you back the signed claim form, then you can sling the mud.

I refuse to do C.O.D.s when there are so many other more cost effective ways to do business.

Being a FedEx Ground contractor for 25 years, I've handled a few CODs. It costs the shipper extra to do it, I think its about $8.00 or so. If he's passing the shipping on to you, it'll cost you the COD fee.

If the shipper requests certified funds, have a cashier's check or money order ready. If certified funds are not required, a check is OK. I'm not sure about UPS or USPS, but FedEx Ground will NOT accept cash.

Be sure to call the the shipper to verify the exact amount of the COD.

Slightly O/T, but about 20 years ago I had a COD for a woman in Sandusky, Ohio who was a palm reader / fortune teller. I walked into her place of business, through the bead curtains, on back to a room with a table and a big glass ball on it. She came out of another room, and I told her I had a COD delivery.

She says "you'll have to bring it back tomorrow. I didn't know it was coming today."

    Some fortune teller! LOL!

Also COD means collect on delivery--- the receiver has no right of inspection-- so if the package is beat-- then you might be careful about accepting it-- if the package is in good shape then by all means have the funds ready.

Another caution --a Western Union Money Order--- is only good to deposit in your bank-- if you want it cashed-- good luck-- In Wichita Ks no instituition would cash the certificate. You can call to verify the funds --
    just FYI Lawrence

A couple of questions. Have you inspected the merchandise? I would assume you have seen pics? Sounds like you may be leary of something. It looks like your in Wisconsin. Where is the merchandise located or coming from? If it's in my area i'd be glad to inspect it for ya, pay for it with your money and send it to ya. I'm sure there are others here that would do the same. Worth a try.

You might consider me as a guy that should be questioned as i've sent the part before payment was ever sent on the idea that if ya like it send funds. I've got a deal going now that i'm requesting an address so i can send the part. Not really worried about the funds. I guess i'm wierd though. We do have members in Calif that would be glad to run interference for ya. Not sure why. Your nickel though.

It might be that he trusts you & is showing trust by offering to send it that way.. typically on forums if the member has been around for awhile & is active -- you'll get a feel for them & that they should be a stand-up member.
It's good to be cautious-- but just stepping outside anymore can be harmful.

a good reason to only use U.S.P.S. money orders
they can be verified as genuine and cashed at any U.S. post office

I'm a mailman. The way COD works is this. We come to your home, knock on the door and tell you that you have a COD package. You pay the mailman, he leaves the package.
part of the COD charge is for the purchase of a Postal Money Order.
So if the package is $100 then the PO will collect $104.00.

Yes the carrier likely has a PS 3849 (the salmon colored slips) pre-filled out. We are under a huge time constraint. So we generally don't hang around long. I give a door 1 knock or 1 ring of the bell, then I move on. You can come to the Post Office the next day and pick up. I'll accept cash, but only exact change. If you hand me 2 $100 bills, you'll get them back and be told to come pick up the package. Same as with a credit card.
Now, if you decide you don't want to accept the package, then it's returned to the sender. As far as you being the buyer, it's great. No harm no foul. If the you see the package is visibly damaged, refuse the shipment.
If your a seller, there is the danger of losing money on a refused package. and you have to wait until delivery to get paid.
