Anyone Using a Factory or Add-on Manual Choke?

As mentioned, manual choke gives you control of warm up and fast idle. I prefer the automatic choke, but in a few cases its not
Automatic at all.
If high idle is on too long, choke thermostat may need some adjusting.

If using manual, you would set it up like a choke thermostat so hi idle is at second highest step on cam,and dial in your preferred high idle.
Those cheap kits are just that-cheap. There are better cables, but come with a high price tag by comparison. Vernier control cables, pto cables. I have a couple on the wall in case i find a use for them.

as to the choke bi-metallic spring
On factory engines, the target for early LAs was 2 or 3 minutes; but I forget the ambient. Later models were faster.
Now; 30,40 or 50 years later, I treat every engine for what it wants.
It varies with a bunch of factors. On an already warm engine it might be on only several seconds. At 40 below with a direct-drive fan blasting it, it could be many minutes longer.
