Applications to find an A-500?

Seems like the popatio now more interested in what your not interested in and seemingly pushing you do to something you don't want to do or be bothered with as if it is to much of a bother for you to do.

No problem Del, here is my work for this. I DID end up welding the brace 1 inch every 3 or 4 both sides to the pan. Overkill maybe. Haven't my floor boards bend under my feet because I used 1/8" steel either, was MUCH easier to deal with than 3/16" or 1/4"... Driveline angle was pretty much unaffected I think I'm 4-5 down? The main killer for angle is that turd mount on the side of the OD housing. I was able to work it out without cutting, but it was close.

"This sounds about right. I'm hoping (if this "goes") to go with "all manual" VB. How this might affect an "e" (electronic" series trans I don't know yet."

I wouldn't bother with the 96+ transmissions. SMR seems to be the only game in town for manual, and reverse manual, expect to pay $500+. Or just shift it with your shifter.

I used a simple duck bill switch, right next to ground for my OD, works great! If I wanted to take it to the next level, I'd install a TH400 electronic kickdown switch at the pedal, but this is working fine.

LMAO How is that any different from other threads on this board. I admit, I'm guilty of "same thing."

But....

1.....I might not 'do anything," time, money, skill......

2.....Might do this

3.....Might go with GM 200R

4.....I might not "do anything" LMAO

.

I think the original thread I keep referring back to they cut the side mount off. Who is SMR?

In a very crass way, you have hit the nail on the head. In my "yooth" I loved stick cars. But age, arthritis, and all the rest have taken their toll. No more, can I row a hard to shift 833 and great big BB clutch. Automatics are THEY way if I'm to do anything at all.

Ok, fair enough. Age and health are often invisible on a webforum.

I daily drive with a 518 in my '73 Dart and I find myself holding the console shifter very often. During acceleration I usually hold the trans in 2nd a tad longer and also downshift often coming into a corner, although the transmission does that by itself as well in the corner most of the time.
4th OD gear is done with a simple switch on the console.
I didn't want to go the auto pressure switch route as I didn't think the switch would shift (@ 44mph) at the moment I wanted it to shift.

On long straight roads I usually flick the trans into 4th from 35mph already.
I've got 3.55 rear gears by the way.

Thanks, this generally is turning out to be a great thread for me. Only downside is, it seems like the applications suitable for a core are not that many.

WT 'ELL??? According to this darn near any 4xR---h or e can be converted to manual.........

If this is true I can use "about any" RWD A500 (or 518 rh or re)

Says

TRANSGO PART: TFOD-3 CLASSIFICATION: REPROGRAMMING KIT

FEATURES: "Stick Shift Kit" Full-race; Competition, Off road and Pro-street. Full manual control. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear are controlled by movement of shifter. Overdrive and or Lock up are controlled electrically by switch.

Somewhat out of date video...

Or download a hi-rez vid

Yeah, the only difference between RH and RE is the governor assembly, and the valve body. Which to my knowledge can be swapped out at will. Since you could give a crap about automatic shifts, you can just abandon or delete the governor during the rebuild.

If the TFOD-3 says it bypasses all the electronic shift, then good on it. Let r eat! Grab any one you want to bro. The newer the better IMO. I found my 42RH first time out looking for one at pick 'n' pull. Was a 95.

Del,

I would think if you're going for a full manual OD the 200r4 would be a good option too, maybe a bit less cutting... I think I remember reading that there are places that delete all the TV (kickdown) cable stuff... A true 4spd OD not a 3spd with a OD on the back

That's not exactly off the table yet, either. This is all "thinking of" LOL

Yeah... I know what you mean, I'm in the "thinking of" phase too... The actual work may not be for another 1-2 yrs finances depending of course... I wonder how many ways I'll build it in my head between now and then?!!

Not sure what yr your working on. I've got a 65 dart that I installed a 46rh into and like has been said to get the trans up and out of the way you will need to modify the floor pan as well as the cross member. Take your time and its not that hard. There's also different options for controlling od and tc lockup

not to jack the thread but I have a 65 I'm getting ready to do this too. The 46 is equivalent to the 518 correct? And do you simply have 1 switch that controls both LU and OD?
