I looking to ditch the column shift....for those that have converted to floor shift auto with a bm /hurst/ etc style shifter...what length cable are you using, and are there any other brackets required?

Thanks!

I replaced my column shifter this past winter with one of these.
After reading many reviews and some posts here. I have a 904 rmvb. Depending on what trans you have and shift pattern, that’s what you order. Everything you need is in the kit.

I’m happy with mine. Turboaction cheetah shifters made in U.S.A.

I ran the cable through the passenger side of the hump near the firewall. Put a holder on the upper bellhousing bolt then down the drivers side of the bell to the bracket, That keeps it out of the way of the headers and exhaust heat. What I found is if you sit in traffic and the cable gets hot and soft the strands in the cable sheath will peacock out of the cable.

I once left my car running while I ran in somewhere , I cam out and it would not go in gear. The outer plastic got soft. Put insulated heat tube on the cable. I actually fixed the cable by wrapping mechanics wire real tight and close around the damage area. Usually the cable with the kits are long enough.

I'm a fan of the B&M pro ratchet shifters. I've had great luck using the cable that comes with it. I think they're 5' if I recall.

5ft is better than four (less friction from larger bend radius) but the cheapo red morse cables with the right end for a b&m is 4 feet. I use "fire sleeve" (silicone covered fiberglass fabric tube). Minimum size of sleeve is determined by the thickest part of the cable on one end that it must slide over) and some header wrap (on the cable with 12ga steel fence wire to hold it on) where it gets too close to headers.
