Is it bad to drive without a kickdown linkage? I have a 904 in a duster and have heard that it can ruin the trans. Also heard that it's fine, just doesn't shift automatically. Will it ruin the trans?
The kickdown linkage controls the line pressure. Without it hooked up, there won't be enough pressure to fully engage the clutches. You'll burn through the clutches in no time.
The engine will feel pretty strong. It will seem like you have a high stall convertor. In actuality, you are burning through the clutches.
Okay, thanks. I have probably driven about 200 miles without it, it still fills fine, however always shifted into third pretty hard. I just bought a loker kickdown kit, but can't install it till this weekend. Probably won't drive the car much till then. Hope I didn't hurt it.
