I guess it has been a while since I bought a stock rear main seal for a RB. I picked up a Fel-Pro BS 40240. Instead of the normal seal pieces that go on the side of the seal cap. This kit comes with two pieces of pipe cleaner looking material, and a tube of silicone. The instructions say to fill the two side voids with silicone and then slide the two pipe cleaner looking material pieces one on each side after soaking them in water? anyone use this set up?

I decided not to take a chance with those on my last build and bought the silicone side seals. The challenge with the FelPro method is making sure the sealer fully and properly fills the void.

That fact occurred to me while I was looking at it and reading the directions. I thought it would be a good idea to leave the cap up a little bit to make sure the silicone travels all the way to the bottom of the groove.
