will a big bolt pattern drum brake upper control arms work for a disc brake conversion?

I had a 67 barracuda i took drum brake off of that had the bid bolt pattern and the upper ball joint measures for a 1 13/16 socket . Its bigger that 1 3/4 and smaller than 1 7/8 ths. I don't know what's going on

are you using a standard socket to measure this or the specialized ball joint sockets?

ETA: the big joint is 1-59/64" the ball joint tool is 1 7/8" square, the small joint is 1.809 or a RCH over 1-3/4 at 1-26/32 or something, but again it's not a standard drive.

So they wont work on a disc conversation correct?

You’d need a tapered ball joint adapter, DoctorDiff sells them.

Would depend on the disk brake conversion too.

Uhhh, those don't always work out.

The Dr Diff adapter hardware does not fit some ball joints. I explain why in the thread linked above.

What?! An aftermarket part that doesn’t always fit?! Say it’s not so!

But yeah, there’s more than a few folks running those successfully. PirateJack and MBM sell them as well. Set of ball joints and adapters is still less than a new set of large ball joint UCA’s.

I run large ball joint UCA’s myself, just putting all the options out there.

I figured that someone had success with them or they wouldn't still be available but some ball joints are longer and fully threaded to the end, others are not.

You think you can get a nut on that? How about a ball joint where the threads don't go to the end?

this part of the spindle is also thicker on BBP units:

which can also play a role getting your nut(s) on....

obviously people use them, but i don't think there's a one size fits all with the difference with regards to the studs.

Thanks. I have not looked close at the drum knuckles to know much about them.

it was something i found out quite by mistake! i was comparing and contrasting an early disc piece to a later one to see if there was enough meat there to blow it out for a big joint conversion.
