Planned on replacing the seal, putting some rtv on the threads. Right stuff the counter shaft just in case.
Trans works perfectly, anything else I should look into?

Clean up the input shaft and the retainer. Also look closely at the gasket. I have see them weep at the thin area eat the bolt holes. Also make surecthe seal is oriented correctly.

The seal that rides on the input shaft needs to be installed at the correct depth in the bearing retainer. Check it out and when back together put oil in and lift rear of trans to cover the front with oil. Works good.

make sure you use a decent gasket...the retainer presses on the snap ring on the bearing, with no gasket and just a load of sealer it stands proud and you can crack the IBR easily

put some sealer on the threads
but not on the thread that will stick into the internals of the case... you don't want wormy's floating about in there.

Um, that snapring on the input bearing looks like a lot like the one that came in the package, which would be the wrong one.
The factory one is a thin small-diameter one. You can tell bt slipping the retainer on, without a gasket, and making sure it slides right up to the case.
If it is the wrong one and if you tighten the bolts, two things will happen; the retainer will crack under the pressure, and the gasket will not seal.
If you don't air-pressure test the box, you won't find this out until after she's installed and yur motoring down the road.
I could be wrong, but I thought it worth noting

i also run a sealed version of the front bearing on mine (which is a different brand of box to yours)
standard size, decent brand, standard no. of balls the original snap ring, but the bearing has seals

seems to work ok in small, steel cased Australian single rail Borg Warners that run SAE 30 instead of gear oil (australian small block and six cylinder transmission)

no idea if appropriate for A833.....!

no idea if it helps with leaks....the oil can certainly get into the bearing past the seal,
did it to keep crap out of the race, because what came out was scored and disgusting and worn heavily on one side, after 30-40 years of abuse... you could clunk its middle back and forth
been in there with seals both sides 10+ years no issues
if i ever need to pull it all out and do the back and counter gear rollers i'd probably do the same at the back...

Recon it works due to the low viscosity oil
what was an experiment based on message board chatter seems to have not ended in disaster and potentially had some benefit

i'll admit i took a risk and maybe i am just lucky....

It's certainly worth checking. The correct ring will be 0.065" thick, and the material width will be around 0.155".
