    Hello All,
Hope everyone is doing well during this time of uncertainty.
    Question,
Should the bellhousing (4 speed) be painted Or just natural aluminum.
If painted should it be same as engine color?
    1973 duster 340.
    Thanks in advance,
    Stay well.
    Happy Mopar,
    Arron.

All originals that I have seen, both iron and aluminum, were engine color.

They were attached to the engine before engine paint, so they typically have over spray around the back at the engine, but they were not intended to be fully painted.

Both my 65 bellhousings - both V8 and slant had engine color overspray on the first 10 inches or so of where it bolts to the engine

        Hello Alaskan_TA,
Approximately how far from the engine block down the bell housing would the over spray continue?
Thanks to all who contribute there wealth of knowledge.
        Happy Mopar :)
        Stay well.

Good to know- originals that I've seen have generally been so flakey that I didn't notice that it was most likely overspray and not fully painted. Most vintage photos seem to show them fully painted, but that's probably factory promotional pics and not assembly line standard...

No two will be exactly the same in every way, it is over spray.

Here are a few pics of the original factory overspray paint on the bellhousing from my 69 340

Like 694spd said, it’s overspray from the engine paint. Mine is very similar on my 69’ 340 4spd Swinger

              Hello black954,
              Agreed,
I followed the great knowledge / recommendations of our fellow FABO members and yourself and painted it just like the pictures show.
Looks great in the car now.
              Thanks to everyone.
              Stay Safe......
              Happy Mopar :)

My 73 Duster was nearly all blue with basically nothing unpainted. No doubt they were all different.
