Best bang for the buck?

I have good news..... We're going to find out! Because before I pull the 318, we'll give it some gears.... My cam is an ancient Crane grind, slow ramps, I've killed my compression, stock converter = hating 2.76's... LOL
That old summit Crane cam is a good grind. apples to oranges to the OP's cam.
FWIW I have that summit grind in my 73 w200.

I'd do 4 things.
  • Tune it to at least a 14.4.
  • Add converter
  • Add headers
  • Cut the heads .045
So when he came right out on his first post and started talking about$1, 700 worth the Edelbrock heads just didn't leave you to believe maybe he's looking for some more action than just a 13-5?

if he's gotta shave those heads and go through all that trouble I would definitely be looking at least .060 if not .080- .100...

I like the cam, but not in a low compression 318 with stock converter/2.76's. My 60 ft are 2.2's. Car pulls like a factory 340 once I hit 30 mph... LOL

Don't go .080 or .100 on a small block head. Slant 6 fine :) At .045 he wouldn't have to worry about the intake (or at least I wouldnt')

2.76>3.55 would increase rpm by almost 1000, if your shifting twice?....could be possible with those heads, cam must still work ok up in the 4k+ rpms...

I shift at 5400 rpms with stock manifolds. I usually cross the 1/4 in 2nd gear...

I could see that. my truck is equipped with higher stall, 4.10's and 360 from the factory.
bought the truck in 83 from a farmer 60000 miles, hasn't broke 100000 yet , probably by the year 2025. I'm saving it to be the road warrior when the end comes. lol
