I would like to know what are the best OEM BB cylinder head castings? I am considering building another 383. Thanks in advance.

Best as in for flow, for porting, stock or ???

I mean 452 series OEM heads flow pretty well and have the hardened seats. 346s/906s seem to be the preferred heads for porting

Sorry, I meant stock, unported for flow.

906 heads flow better between .400-.500 lift, then other BB heads do. They are all about the same in stock form except what I mentioned about the 906 heads.

915 is best cost more than aluminum heads all rebuilt, 906 heads cost more than others because they were during the higher hp era.
If you're looking for flow numbers on a factory iron heads, none of them are outstanding.
So whatever you want to buy will work. If u want to port them they can end up flowing all the same.
Don't get obviously the RV 413 heads.
Gasket match the intake ports and clean up the bowl, there's usually alot of flow to be gained in the bowls, everyone bowl I've ever seen looked like a dinosaur took a dump in it. But that's not just mopar

Thanks, that is good info. Sounds like there is not much difference in the castings. I am looking at doing a budget build, so I figured it would make sense to start with the best stock used heads I could get.

Just get any head and clean it up. Make sure to call a machine shop to see how much it costs to do stuff possibly needed, like guides, surfacing, valve job or new seats...

For a “budget build”, the best heads would be whatever castings you find that would be suitable for the application(passenger car/light truck heads from 65-78), that require the least amount of work to make them usable.

I’m not sure what machine shop costs are like in your area, but where I am it’s pretty easy to spend close to Stealth Head money refurbishing old BBM factory heads.

Wow, I just looked the Stealth heads up, I didn't realize they were that reasonable. A pair of fully assembled aluminum heads for $1200, thanks!

And with the quality of todays gas in sunny, hot Florida, look better all the time.

All the 915, 906 and 452 use basically the same ports, the 452 heads have a small difference in the floor of the intake runner. I would use 915s or 452s but I would do the work under the valves.

The stealths will still need to be checked over depending on the spring pressure you'll need for the cam you want & a valve job. But much cheaper than completely rebuilding HEAVY cast iron . Also the stealths have room to port for the future if you get the wanna go faster bug

According to Jim Laroy, (@IQ52), the 906 heads have a slight advantage for flow over all the rest of the factory castings. I believe he is correct.

I hate these stupid, 'What is the best cast iron cylinder head threads?' None of these heads are any better than the guy who preps them. Carry on gents.

Yeah right, I read your posts & threads and have learned alot, There's no clown in you sir. I did however think that was a legitimate question since benches seem to give different results on the same head.
