I asked this question years ago and never pulled the trigger. DMH was supposed to be good at the time, but they are apparently out of business or just not answering calls or emails. The new motor is going in on Sunday and I'm thinking I'm going to pull the trigger on the cutouts. I probably won;t get much if any power gain, but I love the noise. What are you all using for electric cutouts - hopefully with few problems.

Um, none; they're too slow to be of any use, except in parading. Mandrel-bent, dual 3", is the way to go.

Most new perfomance cars have them already, I bet you could find some pulls used. There were a set off a Corvette a few years ago at a Fling, guy wanted $60 for both of them. He was playing with them with a 12V battery to show how they worked.

                  A few points of interest:

                  1) the Doug's electric cutouts on my 68 GTS open in 15 seconds. Not really sure how much faster they should open? This isn't the fast and furious lol.

                  2) the Doug's electric cutouts are worth 25 rwhp over the resto 2.25" system with the resto muffs. Swapping to Gibson straight through 2.25 muffs was worth 15rwhp cutouts open or closed.

                  3) study the guillotine style cutouts vs. butterfly.

That wasn't my question. I have three inch exhaust, H pipe going through Flowmaster 40's. I want to open it up when I want. Speed of opening doesn't matter.

Summit sells a vacuum-operated exhaust cutout setup I've got my eye on for my '72 D200 pickup. I'm building a 440 to swap into it and don't want to go through the trouble of having to redo the factory 2-1/4" true duals so I'm gonna run 3" collector extensions off the headers as far back as possible with cutouts right before it necks down to 2-1/4". I also prefer to use non-electronic parts whenever possible.

They come with an electric vacuum switch but I'd just rig up my own direct vacuum plumbing with a direct "mechanical" vacuum switch. I'd imagine they open and close pretty quickly and should also hold up to the heat since they use turbocharger wastegate actuators. Pretty ingenious IMO.

I'm old enough to remember the commercial in the 1970 Superbowl game with the GTO cruising the local burger barn and throwing the switch. Awesome!
