Hello! After searching for info on my newly and proud purchase of a 72 dart, i finally decided to join this site after being directed to it so much. And with luck ive found very useful info. So my question to all you Mopar/slant 6 fans is what would be the best place to start if I'm looking to get more power out of my leaning tower of power? Its a stock engine so im starting with a clean plate. Was thinking a new carb or dual single carbs/manifolds. But I'm not sure if I should start with a cam or headers. Any help would be great. Thanks!

re: Dual-single carbs manifold - if you go with that, you'll have to rig up a linkage - that setup comes with the rotating linkage used in the early A body, rather than the cable type

Not the easiest or cheapest, but best bang for the buck= increase compresion ratio.
There is no down side to doing this. It will increase power/torque, and fuel economy.
First decide what you indend to do with the car. Then make mods to reach your goal.

As above, if you know how to remove/install an engine head, then shaving .060" or so off of the head will be a very good start. Then I would put on a larger exhaust pipe and muffler, at least 2-1/4" pipe. Both are relatively low $$ to do.

Also as above, what are you going to do with the car? Drive it on the street? Or drag race? Or ??

Best setup for low money is to leave it stock.

^yup. You just got it. Get it running decent and just drive it. Tinker with tuning a little bit. Since you just got it, you most likely don't know what you want out of it, correct?. I'd drive it for a while until you get a feel for the car and know exactly what you want to do with it. I don't see any point in tearing apart a newly purchased car right away, but that's just me.

Nothing is better than giving it a good tune up to start.
Then go from there......

put different gears in there

ditto! 2.76 gears are for granny! And said 2.25 headpipe, yours is pinched at factory down to about 1.25. Its the pipe after the manifod that feeds exhaust system. Cheap.

I've had the car for about a month. Its a 198 car but it has had a 225 block put in from some time ago. So it isn't a numbers matching car. Also its a 4dr. So I won't be putting it on the strip. However I'd like to get more power out of it. I've done a fresh tune up to it as I saw posted. I've also replaced gaskets and put new shock absorbers on. I saw the offenhauser dual 1bbl intake for sale on line and it comes with linkage kit I believe. It has a 3speed on the coloumn. Dont know if that'll help any but I'm sure it couldn't hurt. Thanks for all the replys
