I hope you guys can educate me on this.

I have read/heard that the 187 and 699 pans will work on a BB swap in an A-body. How about the pan that is similar - but is not stamped with a number - such as a 1965 383 pan? It looks very similar, but definitely not exact. The "notch" is not as great.

Also, If I purchase and use this pan (or even the 187 or 699) which pickup would I need? Would it be the same as the 402 pan pickup?

Help. I have an opportunity to purchase a clean non-stamped pan similar to the 187 and 699.

Kinda depends. And there might be slight clearance differences between 67-72 and 73 and up steering linkages. The pan definitely needs a notch but it doesn't need to be as big as the one on the 187.

On my '70 where the idler swings into the notch, I actually had an issue with it grazing the corner of the notch (circled in the pic) and had to clearance the pan slightly.

You can use the standard passenger car pickup for a 440 or an aftermarket one intended for a center sump. I think the last one I got was #121-1055 from 440Source ($20).
