you out rears 15x7 x 255 x 60 4 inch back space

yes no mods yeah I've been caught out a few times as well Lol

I'm going through the same decision process on my 67 GTS, stock 8 3/4, stock disc/drum brakes, SS springs. I want to go with steel wheels 15x7, 4" backspace... with largest tires in stock wheel wells/location that allow good drivability(not rubbing). Do you think you could've fit the 255 60 15s without moving the spring in, with 4 inch backspace? When I measured, it looked like it would be tight but good.

Also what did you put up front?

Do you have a good side profile pic?

Thanks!!! Mine currently has junk roller 225 70 14s on it. View attachment 1715306276

If I were you, I'd measure what you've got and do the math. Are you changing rearends? If not, do you know the backspacing on the current wheels? It should be simple enough to figure out if you desired tires will fit based on what a tape measure says. I'd use that info way before what someone on the internet says, since all of these cars are a little different in terms of tire clearance.

I was running 245/60/15's on my 68 GTS and it was very close on the driver side. I couldn't get my finger between the tire and wheel lip. Pass side was not a problem had a good half inch. I'm also running SS springs so rubbing was not an issue. I took the 245's off and bought 235/70/15's a little narrower and taller tire as I'm running 3:91's. I have the 2 BFG's 245/60/15's for sale with less than 700 miles on them. Payed $350.00 asking $225. Excellent condition.

Thanks for the tips! I did measure and it seems like it should work, but it’ll be snug... I’d sure hate to buy a set of 15x7s with a 5x4 bolt pattern and brand new rubber via US mail and find out they didn’t fit! I thought about the 235/70-15s too....wondered if they’d makethe wheelwell look fuller-being taller and all Do you have a pic of the 235s?

Here are a few pictures of my 235/70/15's on BBP Scott Drake aluminum mag 500's As you can see it's very close to the wheel lip. On the driver side it's even closer. With the 235/70's it is almost an inch closer to the front of the wheel well opening but not an issue. With the 245's there is very little room between the tire and wheel lip. I didn't have a problem with them rubbing as I have the SS springs and they raised the back end up enough and with the extra height and firmness rubbing was not a problem.

Awesome, thanks! This decision actually stresses me out. It’s a big money item and can make or break the car’s appearance. I’ll post pics when I get it all together.

Jeg's had the best price at the time when I was looking for BFG's 235/70's and free shipping
Thanks for offering the used 245s, but I will buy new so they can mount and balance the set. Thank you for the great pics. Do you happen to have one from a distance so you can see the car's side profile? Also what size do you have on the front?

235/60/15 will fit perfectly on a 15 x 7 rim w/4.25" b/s.

245/60/15 might fit w/the correct b/s and rollin the wheel lip.

A 255/60/15 will not fit unless you install the offset kit or relocate the springs.

BTW, the 70 and up Darts wheel opening is different from the 67-69. A 255 tire will fit the 70 and up Darts, not a 67-69.

Will 255/60/15's fit on a 68 Dart GTS with stock spring location mounted on 15X8 rims with 4.75 backspacing ?

And they fit! I just installed 245/60/15 and 215/65/15 Cooper Cobra GTs around 15x7 Wheel Vintiques steelies with 4.25" BS on my 1967 Dart, stock 8 3/4 axle and spring location, Mopar SS leafsprings, stock wheel wells and lips. 255's would possibly fit, but it would be super tight on mine. Plus as explained previously in this thread by others, every car is different and may or may not fit what someone elses will, so measure and order conservatively. If you still have room and they don't rub when driving, then maybe maximize size next time you order tires. Mine don't rub under light driving with a light load, I haven't carried a heavy load or cornered hard yet.

Looking at your pictures I have an acre more room on my 68 GTS than you do. I took a measurement yesterday and between the inside sidewall of my 235/70/15's to the SS springs I have over 1 inch of clearance. Between the rim and the springs I have two inches of clearance. I'm using a 15X7 rim with 4.25 backspacing, my new rims are 15x8's with 4.75 backspacing so I should be good
