I really liked that low Mileage Survivor Black GTS at Mecum last week.
I was in the bidding for a while, but had to pull out at the end.
Does anyone here know who bought the car?
I would like to keep tabs on it in case it becomes available down the road.

    That was one nice GTS...…….

    Thanks
    Matt M

I hope it doesn't fall off the face of the earth, with 3555 original miles it is one of the best survivors out there. As I told you I sold the previous owner the wheel on the car as it had Cragars on it when it came from North Carolina. I can contact the previous owner and see if he knows.

I was sent pictures and info on the car today. I know of at least 10 that color, but only one other with the black top. Only a couple things wrong with it, should do well.

What does M code stand for?
Those two cars are super nice, make them convertible and it will be mine one day.

Factory 69 440 Dart GTS, also 69 Cuda. M code stands for optional engine not available originally

Oh for the 440 instead of the 340? Did any come with a convertible?

No M-Code convertibles and all came with an automatic and 8-3/4.

I like auto and 8 3/4 but convertible is a requirement for the next one. The M code seems like a cool car though.

Question... did M code cars use Hemi 4sp or the HD 727 tranys ?

                    68 GTS with 383? Or 340?

The round side markers are my favorite and that color is perfect. I like green cars, my 15 rubicon was a green like that "tank green" was the color and my 18 rennegade is "hyper green." A nice dark tan/brown interior would look great in that car.

2 more years! Then I can get another! Shoot by then my current one might be done too :steering:

So sad, what a waste. Such a beautiful car that no one has actually driven. And nobody really will, because every mile that goes on it lowers the value at this point. Hell I put over 3,500 miles on my Duster just in the last 6 months.

That’s a great car, somebody should actually drive it and experience what it’s supposed to be. Not just park it and wait for the market to increase and sell it at the next auction. Buy stocks and bonds if you want an investment.

Maybe when my mortgage is paid off in a few years off I’ll go to one of those auctions, buy some “survivor” that’s spent it’s whole life just waiting to be what it was built to be, and burn the ‘skins off it from the parking lot to the interstate and drive it across a few states on the way home. Break those limp wristed investor type’s hearts. Put 20 or 30k miles on it and take it back to auction. Still be relatively low mileage after all that, might not even lose that much money. It would totally be worth it for the fun, and the purist outrage would just be icing on the cake.

Go on, break out all the X's. I don't care, cars are meant to be driven.

I 100% support this! It's like not having sex with hour wife because you want to keep her fresh for the next guy... what a waste.

Edit- your response is the exact reason I need a convertible. You got to work on the tan while you drive it around. :steering:

Its ok to have a few original preserved cars out there.
For that kind of money you could make 2 fake ones and drive the wheels off of them .

I don't disagree. There should be some original examples out there, and a low mileage M code is definitely worthy of that status.

But there's almost always a car out there that's "more rare" or better preserved, or whatever. We don't have a shortage of museum cars, despite what collectors think and regardless of what they pay for them. We do have a shortage of these cars that actually get driven. And while I do think there should be the original examples that are preserved, it still bums me out to see cars like this black M code. It just seems like a waste to me, that is a badass car. But there's a good chance most of its owners haven't gotten to experience WHY it's badass. It's just an investment and bragging rights to them.

But quite right, for 80 grand you could take a couple of /6 cars and build them up as clones. For that kind of money you could make them outperform that survivor in every way imaginable.

Yeah, I mostly disagree with that, which is why my cars for the most part aren't numbers matching originals.

Thing is the difference between that factory M code GTS up there and a /6 auto 7 1/4 car that's had a 440 stabbed in and has been cloned over to look like an M code GTS is just the numbers on the VIN tag. Quite honestly even if you built your clone to factory standards you'd still probably end up with a better performing car, and what would the difference be? The torque boxes aren't factory installed? It's just the numbers and the value.

Even I couldn't buy a car like that and modify the crap out of it like I've done with my cars. But that wouldn't stop me from tweaking some purists by driving it around and having fun with it like it was intended for awhile before I put some correct looking consumable parts back on it for auction.

The difference is the vin between the cars. I dont have #s matching or rare because I'm a poor college student with 3 kids, but when I have the money I will have the exact cars I want. Sure my restored title, swapped out no where near # matching is fun and we love it, but I would sure love a perfect example #s matching one too!

Maybe it's because I'm younger, but I believe every car was built to be driven. If I'm spending 50-100k on a car you can bet your bottom I'm driving the chit out of it, my wife is driving it and my 3 kids are driving it it they want. It it gets hurt that is what I have insurance for, I'll get another.

Before dental school I had a 60k Rubicon, my son and I took it out every weekend and rock crawled the crap out of it. Broke drive driveshaft, bent frame rails, fenders, lights etc etc. I never talk to my wife, kids, friends or family about the car and what broke. We talk about the memories made in the car. Same would hold true with a # matching A body. The cool thing about an M car, or any other nice original car is you can drive it, enjoy it and thank the lucky stars every day for your blessings to have one. When you die hopefully your kids want it to remember you by... or just want it to light it on fire because you loved it more than them? Haha just kidding.

So what ? Both my cars are fakes...
                              My 68 Fastback was originally a 318 now 360.
                              My 69 Swinger was originally a 340 now 408.

I drive the wheels off the Barracuda . And will drive the Dart plenty once its done.
Does it have to be numbers matching to enjoy it ?

Besides I can hammer a non original without guilt or fear... lol

I didnt say anything was wrong with a fake car, please dont take it as an insult as my car is fake too (not #s matching). The thread is in reference to the M code vs non #s matching at the difference between a clone m code and m code is the vin. It's not much but a lot at the same time.

I would drive a #s matching the same way I will drive my dart. Enjoying every minute of it with the family at the same time.

Was just looking at Me Norms car pictures that are posted on the Barrett Jackson website. Is there bubbling or peeling paint in the rear wheel wells? Or is that dirt or photo mess up?
