Llland Global 318 truck oil pan.

The new oil pan referenced above I bought new from Rock auto and it arrived yesterday. It has a black primer like (semi shine) coating in and out. Seems like nice quality. (Sorry no photos as I’m in a truck waiting for my client to off load what we just rebuilt in our shop- I’m pre planning while I wait.)
Any hoo- has anyone here applied paint directly to this electro- coated product? I cannot tell if it is this or a sprayed paint? I planned on using the chrysler blue duplicolor aerosol paint not automotive paint. It’s going in the van we are building and it will go in in pieces I believe and built in the van.

I think first a primer 2 part sealer would be good after a quick scuff before paint Thoughts?

Probably some sort of e-coat. Cheap protection for the long trips on container ships.
I have mine stripped and powdered coated on the exterior...

Since your planning on going with the Duplicolor Chrysler blue, I would scuff it with a red Scotch Brite pad and prime with duplicolor engine primer before the blue.

Laquer thinner and a rag will let you know if it is electroplated. The thinner will not effect it. Paint will wipe off.

Did not know there was such a thing. Gonna head to Napa and give it a try. Thank you.

Powder-coat comes in that Chrysler color. If any place on an engine needs powder-coat....bottom/oil-pan.

I’ve torn down a lot of late model engines and I’ve never once seen Ecoat come off inside a pan

It’s there for the duration

I’ll “assume” that e-coat inside the engine would not be effected by the oil.
And moisture may not harm it if you run the engine enough to keep the moisture down.

So, I hit it with 555 and nothing. Let it sit for a moment and wiped again.
Not sticky or anything on the rag.
I guess it’s e-coat.

Yes
The OEMs have been using that for a long time
No issues with them
