Saw this on a "For Sale" post and didn't want to clog his add with my observation/comments... A nice 2nd Gen Barracuda lower valance.

A detail often missed on 67-69 Barracuda restorations is the factory Blackout treatment done to the front valance. Faded, but still visible here.
Makes these tabs kind of disappear from a distance.

Not my cars and I do not know the owners. I just did a quick google search to show the difference. Both are nice cars. One makes me want to grab a black rattle can,
but could be my OCD... “¯\_(ツ)_/¯“

    Blacked out.

The top picture (the valance leaning up against the pallet) has got to be one of the worst pictures I have ever seen in an ad.

I think that some people love the fresh paint so much, they have trouble applying any blackout to it, no matter if it is factory correct or not.
I left the core support on my '70 Charger shiny red for years, then got with the program and painted it a semi-flat black.

If nothing else, it'll make it easier to hide the rock chips and bug splatter that ends up on those hard to clean tabs. Obviously Im not trying for correctness but that is good to know. I will black 'em out first chance I get. thanks

Just wanted to vote and put my 2 cents in - YES this is one of my OCD / pet peeves too! It is a detail OFTEN missed. But then again I like a stock (or really close) appearing car. But wanted to let you know you are NOT the only one.

You can also put the valance on upside down, saw two Barracudas at a car show sitting next to each other years ago and something looked strange, one had the valance bolted on wrong!

My original lower valance was pretty beat up but the black was clearly still there.
In fairness, it's easily overlooked. Also extremely easy to do, if desired. Doesn't bug me.
I only mention it as trivial matter of fact. Don't care if others do it or don't.

                    upload_2022-1-15_7-43-22.png

Ours may not need blackout anyway. Car will be Viper Gun Metal Pearl, (Seen through the grill openings) might do it just to eliminate reflection/shine.
We'll decide after final paint. “¯\_(ツ)_/¯“

Hard to imagine putting the valance on upside down.
Even harder to image it not being corrected immediately thereafter.

E-bodies had the rocker pinch-weld blacked out too. I don't think A-bodies had that from the factory.(maybe the later years did...not sure) It looks much cleaner if you can't see body color on the pinch-welds. My 68 Dart convertible is getting the pinch-welds blacked out even if it wasn't factory.

That was my case too. After all the prep and paint work I just couldn't bring myself to cover my paint with flat black so I left it the body color. I don't its noticeable and even if someone does notice it, its my car not theirs and I like it the way it is lol.

What paint do you guys use for that blackout treatment? I've been putting off blacking out the front of my 68 Dart (no excuses - just flat out been lazy). I'm wondering if there's a decent rattle can that'll get the job done. Maybe a paint shop 2k flat black spray bomb?

Id say flat black rustoleum would work fine. I'd rough up the paint to give it something to adhere to. I've used rustoleum on almost everything on my car and that stuff will stick to pretty much anything
