nicely done ain't it? also bought a boat kit, plastic, 1/36 scale, about 24 inches long here's a pic, can't find any info on it, it's a Japanese kit, ARII. 10 bucks, couldn't resist it either.

I did that with a kit once.....$3500.00 later....almost 8' long, 10' high, 65 lbs and fully radio controlled. Everything but the hull was hand built due to AMYA rules.

It was a hoot to sail, most of the photos were taken in Mystic, Conn. at the National Regatta.

It wasn’t really a kit and parts came from several suppliers. I built it 12 years ago and if you google “J Boats” it will give you the history of the AMYA class based on the America’s Cup Races of long ago. Each Hull is hand made and numbered by the maker of the hull. The number on my sail was 57 which was available and my age at the time. I also raced “EC12’s” which stands for East Coast 12 meter boats which is an actual full size racing class.
Each plank on the deck was hand laid over hand cut bulkheads. The deck was pine, the king plank and boards at the toe rails were cherry. Mast was 10' and aluminum with hand built spreaders and rigging. Sails were purchased from a sail maker, 300 square inches for a little over $300.00. You need to have an understanding of sailing to really enjoy it.

Damm, ten foot mast, how did Ya haul it? Ya know most people think the sail boat is driven through the water by air blowing on the sails, not so, it works as an airfoil or airplane wing with low pressure on the backside of the sail kinda sucking it along.

I hauled it in my 2002 Durango, it fit...just barely.

It actually acts as a wing only vertical, they are a lot of fun but also a lot of work to build. All the electronics have to be mounted and it uses a sail winch as well as a twitcher which will make small adjustments to the jib.......the small sail in the front of the boat..:lol:There is also a lot of lead internally that sits in the keel.

The Invictor became the LeSabre later on. Below is a ‘60 Invictor I seen at work. Post a nose shot!

That's good because Isaac Hull was the first Captain of the USS Constitution.

In the old days they molded the year of the car on the license plate, this one it molded as 1959 on the plate.
