I have a 1850 holley you can use in place of the eddy if you want too.

Maybe the difference is one has 2 hi, and the other is 4 hi. I would think the Holley runs richer, and proves it by how fast she starts, idles in the cold. But that wouldn't aid the fuel mileage. The 360 got "as advertised" on our trip 13 mpg. I think the '85 is geared better for the highway.
I just expected the '85 with bigger/wider tires, the fact that I didn't do anything with the engine (I put fresh heads on the 360, new timing chain, etc), ya know, I expected it in the cold weather to be lucky at 10 mpg??? idk. Again, I didn't officially check it, but it "seems" it's doing much better than I thought.
But the crazy thing keeps playing games with my mind anyways
Adventures continued tonight. Drove it to work because of the big snow storm that was to hit tonight. It hit. And on my way home I made it about 1/2 mile and blew a tranny hose from off a pipe that connected it. I had that fixed in 1 minute, clamps were loose. Waited in the blizzard for my wife to bring me more tranny fluid in her ramcharger... LOL.
P.S. - My wife popped off her ramcharger, 360, no choke, in a blizzard and cold, warmed it up and brought my tranny fluid 25 miles in a blizzard at midnight. Best wife, I tell ya!
and too those pansies that can't get their car started in the cold without a choke...

Are you carrying emergeny bad weather break down survival stuff? Blankets, road flares, jumper cables and other stuff?

I've had jumper cables, a spare battery, flashlight, and a blanket with me since I've been in the storms with this beast. Man does that 318 pop off in a nick of a key when it's cold. In a short 20 seconds I can walk away and let it warm up. No choke either. Been charging fine. Have had no issues with the charging since I put the spring back in for the brush and tightened the terminal. A little hesitant to call "victory".... as it's full of surprises.
Very cold -15 below zero at 8:30 am, I'm sure it was probably minus 20 earlier.
Anyways, I just went out there and swept our "newest" 3 inch snow fall (on top of what we already have) and fired the beast up, means it was only minus 1 degrees She start right up after a couple tries (below zero and no choke 
) and I played around some in the snow, means I don't have a snowmobile.

Took a bath, got dressed and went outside in the 7 degree cold. Set down in my damp clothes and frooze my butt to the porch. Been sitting outside for about 18 hrs now. lol

Peeing in my pants didn't seem to help. Froze as soon as I stood up. Now with the new 2 inches of snow I look like a snowman standing by my porch.
after yesterday's snowfall adding to our previous storm, we have another snow storm hitting us this evening. Below zero degrees continues. I'll get some more gas in the ole' girl... may need her

Put some gas/heet in it. The blizzard has settled in - they're saying another 8 inches or so...….. Yeeha …… And 30 below actual temps by Wednesday - Yikes!

I had to disagree, that's weather I can do without. A little snow and mid to upper 20's temps is just right for me.

Still seems to be charging ok. I haven't put a meter on it in several days, but everything is working as it should, and the battery is holding charge great - been starting it in this sub-zero weather. Maybe the field being loose/spring being partially bulging out was the last issue....?????....
