So junction City Oregon function for junction last weekend. A really fun event over 600 cars Good times over a thousand if you count the cruises. So during the all years cruise on Friday night one part of the route people were burning off big time a lot of late model smoking up the horizon and the crowd was loving it! I rolled up with my 340 pack and staged with style, I run drag radials so I knew I had that hit it hard to break them loose 45,000 RPM launch and laid it down in classic 340 style. But on the way home I felt a small vibration, I never ignore vibration after jacking the car up the next day I seem to have excessive lash in the rear end. My question is is there a way to check lash in a assembled drivetrain or how would you determine to much lash.? What's the magic number on a 741

I think with a 45,000 RPM launch you would do more than just damage the rear end

A burnout is one random way among many to entertain the public while breaking your stuff.

I built my s*** to race which includes competition clutch chromoly driveshaft 440 leaf pack new flywheel etc etc so enough with opinions from the candy ass crowd. It's nothing really that I wouldn't ask the car to do at the races. Yes I hit a little harder than usual but it will be undergoing 100 horsepower upgrade this winter so if there's a component that needs to be addressed so be it.

If it can't handle a burnout it ain't worth having

I am no expert at all but with that said, See if there's any play in the pinion? Pinion is set with shims so not much you can do without dropping the pumpkin.
What do you mean by lash ? Play you can feel pulling in and out on pinion? Or play turning driveshaft back and forth. Check your u joints maybe ones tweaked .

Not saying this is what happened to yours.
                        I once sheared all but 2 ring gear bolts on a 4.56 8 3/4.
Looks like you will have to pull the pumpkin to inspect.

For sure, I've been wanting to change out my yoke. And lash has always seemed excessive every since I put it in a few years ago. I'm not really convinced that it's the rear end I might just lost a wheel weight but it seems to get worse under deceleration which leads me to believe it's the rear end.

Thanks I do have another 8 and 3/4 under my bench :D it's a 323 but it'll get me through the summer if it's more than just an adjustment.

I frag'd my 8.75 sg clutches first test of the line lock. I'd recommend pulling it out and performing a visual inspection.

You did not answer the question from Kendog 170!

What is the lash issue you may think you have and how did you determine that?

I always air up my drag radials when I think that, I may want to show off! Normally they are at 10 to 12 PSI! I bring them up to 35PSI and they spin much easier!

Last time I was at the track, I got some wheel hop and busted a tooth off my ring gear. Plus, when I took it apart, I found two teeth gone on the spider gears. For starters, check the torque on the pinion nut, but probably the center section needs to come out for diagnosis.

I drove it home like that. It was noisy and vibrated a little bit accelerating, but was really bad when decelerating.
