:dontknow:
I think he tries to keep a list of them since they are considered high dollar cars, that's all. He plays with Chryslers numbers and production figures and the Demons don't fall into that category since they were dealer modified. The 68 M code Dart GSS does however have records and was factory built.

Galen helps people find legit, rare cars and verifies them before purchase or gives his stamp of approval. That I think is his main business these days. At this point I think he has to choose between inspecting a Hemi Cuda for a high dollar client over trying to get $50 from us little guys over a common muscle car question. I'm pretty sure that is where he gets his bad rep from. He's really a good guy and loves all Mopars, but there is only one of him and his services are in demand, only so much time to do this and make a decent living at it, know what I mean? There are other avenues one can pursue to get basic production numbers and tags/sheets decoded that are free, or cheap (Galens books for one) so I don't think he does much of that anymore.
People are all the time wanting to know how many cars of one color, or with a color/engine combo were made. Well, Part of what Galen collects tag info for is to form a database for these options and then try to come up with a fairly close, reasonable assumption based on the information he has. Not all records were kept, or even ever existed for certain things. I hear a lot of people bitching when Galen photographs tags at shows, but this is why. If you don't want your info recorded that's fine, but don't complain when the information you are after about your car doesn't exist. That said, it would make sense to decode that /6 car tag or sheet wouldn't it? But, like I said above, maybe his time is limited. I really don't think he's taking payment for this type of thing and not returning a product.

I'm not calling out anyone specific here, just making random observations about the general attitude towards Galen. If anyone has a specific occurrance of Galen ripping someone off or not returning $$ I'd like to know about it, I'll ask around and see what I can find out.

Could you PM me the vin number off the sheet? I'll check the registry.

Ah okay, thanks for explaining that.

If you have the fender tag or a broadcast sheet you maybe able to decode it here:

http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=17

Thank you soulsurvivor,

I have decoded my fender tag multiple times and had people decode it for me before and I have used multiple website decoders for my fender tag and I got it decoded for the most part but there was always a couple things that would say unable to decode or that would decode wrong.

I just went to the website you suggested and I downloaded the PC version of there vin/fender tag decoder so I could have access to it on my desktop.

I ran my vin and fender tag and it gave me a DETAILED list of my codes, did not miss any of them.

It told me the original color of my paint, told me that it was upgraded to a bench seat and the color.....it really broke the hole thing down.

it works great and I recommend every one give it a try even if they already know there code break down, they may learn just a little bit more!

However, there is still a couple things I am curious about that maybe someone could help with?

I have a fender tag code of Y84 which was broken down to - New car service - dealer pre-service.

I was wondering what this meant.

Also since mine was a gold duster it said that I had a gold canopy vinyl top but that has since long been removed, however during my restoration progress I have found reminents of gold tinted snake skin vinyl under the chrome windshield trim.

My question is, is this the gold top it is mentioning,or was it changed out at one point for the snake skin style I have found left over in spots?.

any help would be great,thanks

I'm thinking they are talking about the gold snake skin.

I have used Galen's service 5 times now. It is nice to get the decoding and registry from him. There are other places and ways (as mentioned on this thread) to decode your car. As for Galen, he takes FOREVER to get your stuff back to you. But he is busy and in high demand. I look at it this way, it's not like I'm sending him a large amount of money. So when it comes in the mail I am usually surprised but happy with the service.

I don't know of any accusations of galen ripping people off but imo people should really stop talking about him like he's a god. IMO if Galen wasn't the first to run the production numbers etc, then someone else would be. Thats my only issue. I couldn't care about factory numbers(my car is only a slant 6 gt anyways so I'm not concerned with the whole numbers and value game)

So, getting back to my original question, has anyone ever tracked down the buildsheet for their car from Galen, or anyone/anywhere else?
