I drove Cab for 20 years, It's been 5 years since I driven do have a bunch of short stories but don't if I'm a good story teller online, If goes ok, I'll keep on adding.
Like most Cab stories are about dealing with drunks and runners (people that bolt without paying).
I picked these 3 or 4 idiots up from a local bar (small town 20-30 minutes outside of Toronto) and was taking them to the next town over so a ok paying call, so were getting close, make left here, right turn there in this subdivision, and one of them points to the last house on the right at the bend next door to a park which is straight ahead, so I'm suspicious and cautious, I name the price as were rolling closer to the house, their hands start going to their pockets a good sign but I'm still cautious so I slowly pull up and in driveway sideways towards the park their still going for their pockets and all a sudden they bolt and scatter but one heads to the park.
So I hammer the Crown Vic's gas pedal and hear the doors slamming from me taking off across the sidewalk towards the park, it didn't take long to catch up as he was running up the small grass hill going into the park, all a sudden he's a couple of feet in front of my bumper, so I'm worried a little he might drunkenly slip and fall in front of me so I pulled up beside him trying to grab his hoodie but couldn't so I opened my drivers door and tried to hit him with it. But he ran into a small patch of trees and bushes, so I just circled around them like I was in Mad Max or something, he finally ran towards the play ground and I circled him there, he found his opening ran down the sidewalk path.
He had a pretty good head start as Cab made it down the narrow path (i do most my chasing from the car) so I get out to the street see him no where so I figure he was in one of the yards so got out of my car
and found him under the back porch, started dragging him out by his feet but guess I woke up the house threating this runner and had to explain to the people and turns out the kid lived next door so his parents paid.
A lot of drivers wouldn't bother for the risk and effort plus if you don't end up getting paid your just losing more money not doing calls especially at bar time, but F that if I think there's a chance of catching you I'll spend hours even come back for days if I have to, plus I probably scared that punk for rest of his life bet he didn't run again
I had a bunch of young girls do a similar run for only $5 lol, wasn't gonna do anything but figure should scare them a bit so hopeful they don't do it again so drove down the pathway seen a few run into someone's backyard, found them in a bush crying lectured them as I lead them out of the yard then drove away, who knows if they did it again, better when dudes run you can beat them up then if the cops come they will give them a tune up too
I had another kid run on me, was chasing him down the sidewalk in the cab on a main street in the middle of the day, grabbed his hoodie tied his sleeve to the door so he couldn't run but he got out of his hoodie before I fully got out of the car, I chased him around the car a couple of times as he was screaming I couldn't beat him cause he's a kid, I asked him his age and he said 20 years old, I informed him that's definitely old enough for me to kick his ***, but I got tired of chasing let him run off, hopefully was his favorite hoodie
Last quick one, I was chasing this time on foot and the guy stopped and walked back towards me and said that I couldn't do anything, so I yelled help help I'm being robbed and I smiled devilishly at him holding my Maglite now I can beat ya lol, he said I was crazy and ran off
