Hey all my Mopar brothers and sisters, I'm changing the cam in my 340, I have all the proper things including break-in oil, My question is, I run Royal Purple HPS synthetic oil with plenty of Zinc, after the break in period should I go right back to the Royal Purple or should I use a non synthetic with Zinc till my next oil change

Thanks Jeff

My understanding has always been that, once the cam is broken in, the process is done. Work hardening of the lifter faces is the process. So after the usual high RPM initial running, and then some driving for a few 10's of miles or whatever you feel comfortable with, then you can change.

Just out of curiousity, I looked at this HPS oil and cannot find the zinc or phosphorous PPM numbers. Anyone know them?

What I do is use break in oil (Brad Penn) and use it through two oil changes. Then I went back to the synthetic.

Break in, change oil.
Drive a few hundred miles, change oil.
Drive several thousand miles, switch.

I found a site called team Camaro, motor oil lab tests, and it listed many oils, it listed Royal Purple HPS at 1774 ppm.
