So took apart my 1986 318 for my Cuda and the previous owner put the 273 adjustable rockers and solid lifter cam in it .Timing chain is shot cam is looks worn out ! So I was gonna change over to hydraulic lifter camshaft, have a comp cam which has 268 duration and a 454 lift, new chain and lifters , was gonna loose the adjustable rockers and put stamped steel rockers on . Was wondering if the factory 318 valve spring would be good enough for this cam or should I update ??? Would the adjustable rockers work with the hydraulic cam ??? Any help would be great!!

Thanks Mike 67 Barrcuda

Use whatever Comp recommends, I believe #901-1 but check b/4 ordering.

Yes, the adjustable rockers can work with a hydraulic cam, just need the correct length push rods; was a set for sale in "Mechanical parts for sale" section; or just use stamped steel non-adjustable, nothing wrong with them.

Cam is a good choice for a "Teen".

Good luck!

Why are you switching from a solid to a hydraulic?

Yes, the adjustable rockers will work with a hyd cam.

268 is an advertised duration number. It means nothing. For example, COMP Cams #CRS 268H-10 vs. #CRS 268H-8. Both have 268 advertised duration. Both have different durations at .050.

If that engine had adj rockers and a solid cam I question if they really are stock valve springs. Regardless, I would consult with comp and ask that question. I'd say yes, but I wouldn't want to find out the hard way.

For the price & valve control, you can't beat a new set if valve springs. Those unknown units MAY be a bit older than you may think. And thus, more worn out.

Changing from solid to hydraulic because I was hoping to save the adjustable stuff for a more radical build, and I allready have the new cam and lifters ! Will be changing the springs don't want any valve float

Thanks for the feed back !!

Comp 901-16 are the ones that most recommend for a better spring without having to mod anything like pockets, retainers or locks.
