This is my first post. I don't have an a body, but I have a 360 that I need some help with on choosing the correct cam for my use.
What I have are 9.5 to 1 pistons, a set of speedmaster aluminum heads. Rotating assembly has been machined and balanced. Stock rods that were polished and shot pinned. 2400 stall speed converter with 904 trans. Transmission was rebuilt with race bands and clutches. Would like to put a manual valve body sometime. I have and 8.75 rear end with 2.94 gears, but that may change. 26.1-in tires. Car should weigh in at around 2500 to 2600 lb. This will be a weekend cruiser, cruising from town to town so driveability is of some importance. Gas mileage is of some importance. Operating range maybe off idle to 5,500 RPM. Forgot to mention I have an Edelbrock performer intake that will be port matched to the heads. There are no headers that I know of made for my car. So headers are out. I will either have to go with some 340 exhaust manifolds or shorty headers with 2 1/2 inch stainless exhaust. I want this thing to be able to lay you back in the seat good and hard. I would like some suggestions on a cam that would suit me. Does anyone else have any combos similar to mine... Let me know... Thanks

With your compression and gears, putting you "back in your seat "will be hard.
Get a towing or torque cam.

I would go as low as 3.23 for gears.

          Garbage cam. (Sorry Mike)
What car is this in? Is it a B body?
2400 stall, 26 inch tires, car weight of 2600lbs., speedmaster heads and a Edelbrock Performer intake, 294 gears, weekend cruiser.

IMO, you need more gear. Step up to 3.55’s.
In order to “Put you back in your seat”, you’ll need a good bit more gear and a really good higher stall converter. Something like 4.30 gears & at least a 3500 converter.
Also, the heads are not being used very well with low lift cams. I’m isn’t easy finding high lift cams with short durations that operate to only 5500 rpm.

For you currently, I suggest a cam of no more duration @.050 than 224.

Rumble suggested the XE262H, I was going to suggest the XE268H. I have the 268 in my mild 360, with 340 manifolds, 355 gear, and it works nicely.

Another I would suggest taking a look at would would be the Lunati voodoo line. Something like the 256/262. They call it the "701" cam. I'm building a new 360 now, and probably going with the voodoo 701 or 702 cam.

On another note: Alot of these camshafts don't even look like they're available at the moment.

Ya, I don't own one. Didn't know they were available until here lately. I don't hear much good about Comp any more either.

Luniti voodoo. The 703 maybe a little large for 9:1 compression id go with either the 701 or 702. Im running the 702 with basically stock heads and 10:1 and its strong!

Third vote for a lunati voodoo. Pick the cam to match your rear end gear. 2.9x gear, smallest cam. 3.55, mid size cam . 4.10/4.30, big boy cam.

Comp has grinds that would fit. Many companies do.
I’d have one made on a 106 to bolster low end torque. Add lift and 1.6 rockers to get that head flowing some air.

I like the 268 cams for this. IMO the Lunati version of the 268 is a bit better than Comp's. Splittin hairs, but that's my opinion.

You'll want something cut on a smaller LSA to increase cylinder pressure. I couldn't find anything that really made me happy off the shelf for your build. The closest I found was comp cams 20-616-5 but it had a little more duration than i'd preffer.

Yep, that's too big in the wrong places. Like the cams from decades ago, all duration and no lift. This one is closer to the 340-4 barrel specs. Who grinds these cams? I thought it was Crane but they got bought out from what I understand.

It wouldn't take much of a 360 to make it scat. Gas mileage? You won't get much.

Ask if the cam you like is made for the Mopar .904 lifter diameter. Most are not. They are Chevy grinds on an .842 core.

Howards can grind a Mopar grind on a Mopar 904 core. Your OEM cam was on a .904 core....why go backwards? A 904 grind gives you nearly roller cam performance according to Mike @ Jones Cams.

Howards also grinds Mopar cams for another Mopar shop.

The biggest thing you have to face is supply...there is a six month backorder on many cams right now. I was quoted 6-8 months on a new crank. Good luck.

In the end it's your build, but I see a few things that to me are undesirable about that cam. The first is the LSA. You have 9.5:1 compression, I'd be looking at something less than 110 degrees. In fact i'd be considering 106 or less. That's coming from a guy who nearly always favors wide LSA's.

The second thing is the lift is just making par on this one. I'd want to see .525 minimum, preffer .550+

Last, I always prefer solid lifters and would seriously consider a roller cam if you can afford it. When the cam wipes out, you'll wish you went roller.

@roccodart440 Yep! Even though I did list that cam above, earlier I did say I’d have a cam ground on a 106 to bolster torque. I think we both see the plus in that move.

With 1.6 rockers, lift comes in at .547/.560.
                                    Gotta get them heads working!

                                      There flow numbers are this or something like this;

                                      Flow Data @ 28″ water
                                      lift 100 200 300 400 500 600
                                      Int 71 133 191 236 251 254
                                      Ext 66 111 145 173 185 193

Flow starts to pick up nicely after .400.

Do we even know what the OP's actual SCR is? He simply stated he has "9.5 to 1 pistons." Has the compression ratio been verified with actual measurements??
