My brother and I are putting together a 360 for his dart. We picked up a short block and pulled the cam out of it to put in a purple cam that we already had.

The cam that was in it is new and we were hoping one of you might be able to identify it. We were told it was a melling cam.

The numbers on it are 111837, 240780, and 240430.

    Thank you for any help.

Measure the base Circle and then measure the lift and then subtract the two and multiply by one and a half.

      Me o my
Or pull out your Harbor Freight micrometer LOL and measure the high lobe and measure the base Circle and subtract the difference and multiply it by one and a half? That doesn't give you anything more than the lift but it does give you a good clue if it's going to be crazy or not.

We pulled out the dial calipers and it's looking to be about 452/458 lift and looks to have less duration than the purple cam (The lobe peaks are much sharper), so we are throwing the purple cam in for this one. Thank you guys for the responses.

If you don't mind my asking, what short block and what is this Dart going to be used for?

There is still the issue of duration that the HF mic won’t tell you.

so I guess its not a 240 duration 430 lift...that would be easy. Melling uses different numbers in their catalog.

It's a 360 30 over. J heads milled to give 9.5:1. That purple can, an ld340 Intake and a 750 vac secondary carb. Its going to be used as a cruiser that sees the strip a few times.

OK... just curious.. Gonna take a heap o' millin' with stock 360 LA pistons to get to 9.5.

OK, I was thinking more like .060", but .050" is only 2 cc's less milling. Put in some Mr Gasket 1121G head gaskets (.028" thick) and you are there.
