Friend asked me if he can use a gen 3 Hemi automatic trans with his small block. I know they bolt up but if this can be done, what is needed to make it work?

Anything's possible.
Manual or automatic trans?
Nag1, 845RE, 8HP70, or what?
Passenger or driver's side starter?
Passenger starter is a no-go on an LA.
Automatics will require a stand-alone controller, they are all electronically shifted.
No speedometer drive on any of the hemi transmissions.
Flex plate is eight-bolt for a Hemi, six-bolt for LA. And they're not the same style.
All would require substantial floorpan/tunnel and crossmember modifications.
And other considerations, I'm sure.

He is trying to put a small block into a Chrysler 300 to make something different. He enjoys tinkering around and the challenge of hot ridding something different.

If you have any insights/experience on the coupling of the small block crankshaft to the 3rd Gen Hemi’s flex plate, or a source for this type of information, that would be appreciated.

Use appropriate conversion flex plate. Available from ATI, Bouchillon Performance, etc.
