now i tried to read thru all of those to se it it was mentioned but i didn't see it...

in you first round of pics you can see that flap in the exhaust manifold... it it is stuck in the "on" position it will divert hot exhaust gases onto the bottom of the intake and make it over heat... when its cold or with a rag make sure you can move it around freely... it should go back to one spot tho... off

    Good point!

If you are standing in front of the car facing the motor turning the flapper counter clockwise will close the flapper and divert the hot air to the intake and turning it clock wise will open the exhaust. The one in my wifes 66 is dead so I just left it in the open position. It takes a little longer to warm up (still only about 5 mins when it is in the mid 30's) but it isn't that big of a deal.

That was the old broken manifold that was replaced-notice that the firewall side of it is gone. She replaced it but what you say about it needing to move is still valid.

Thanks for the help...Dan has recommended, basically the same checks as you all have and to replace the T-Stat with the SuperStat # 45358, flush the radistor with DeNatured Alcohol and use Evan's Waterless Coolant NPG+ only ( no water!) This I will be doing for sure!

Another tip. When it gets "hot" check the temperature of the radiator with your hand (close, but not touching) and feel for any cooler spots, that'll tell you if your rad is plugged up. And that diverter flap is a bane to V8 owners too, usually gets stuck in the closed position after sitting for years.

Considering you live in Florida I'd just wire the flap open and be done with it.
