The safest place for any car parts is in the house, or a heated air conditioned basement. Not much in the outside shed. I'd hate to take a picture of my basement with 3 cars and most of my spare parts.

(Also @66fs who posted a second or so ago while I was replying..)

Exactly! Parts left to temp changes and humidity get ruined. The house is a stable environment. And that’s exactly why I have brand new and slightly used parts (well cleaned up) in the house. They are in exactly the same shape when I put them in there. Cast iron gets the hammer worst and first. Then it’s unprotected machined surface like a camshaft, lifters, etc...

So... I think Rani isn’t crazy..... I think she’s got it right... and yup, if your new and don’t know her, she is a car nut. Fits in here perfectly like the last puzzle piece.
It’s non car people’s that don’t get it. They think your nutz!

When my girlfriend, now wife moved in with me 20+ years ago, I had a go-wing, set of twin scoops, and 3 6-pac intakes in the closet.
I moved them to the garage out of respect for her.
I don't keep parts in the house, and she does not put her crap in the garage or outbuildings, fair trade.

Well,if you read my signature, it says: When your dumb you gotta be tough.

So no Hulk needed,I do just fine...

Really, a small block on a stand will go right through a 36" door. 2 sheets of plywood to roll on through the yard and take it right where you want it.

When I first started the restoration on the Barracuda I collected all the parts and put them in the house (many were already there).

There was a time in working on the car I needed a place to paint so the living room became my paint booth
                        2008-06-15_002.jpg

Whenever I needed a needed a place to look at parts or work on small assemblies the dining room was used.

When the Barracuda was done I chose to do another car, my 69 CHP Polara.

Nowhere the do an engine we used the dining room, that is the painted hood for the Polara under the blanket.
The engine was even painted right there

The dash went together on the dining room table.

With both cars done and no plans to do another I got back to the remodel that was started before I started the cars.
The finish on the fireplace goes all the way around into the dining room. The space to the right of the fireplace was original open as seen in the previous pictures.
The house is currently work in progress, I can say there are now no parts in the house as with both cars done I have thinned out almost all the spare parts.

I had a few 2x8s and I laid two side by side on the floor as wide as the casters on a moving dolly. We put a loop of chain across the intake, invited a few strong friends, put a 2" pipe through the chain. Then we lifted the engine onto the dolly and rolled it the length of the 2x8s, keeping it balanced. Put two more 2x8s at the end and rolled again. Moved the back ones forward until we reached the back door. The three steps out the back door required a brut strength effort by two of us on each end of the pipe. Then back to using the moving cart down the sidewalk until we reached the engine hoist on the driveway. No damage, no hernias!

Car parts in the basement are one thing, but car parts in the living room is a whole ‘nuther level...

Parts in Basement set up like a parts store, hope it is not too organized.

Got tired of looking through stacks of parts trying to find things when you need them out in the buildings and shop.

No parts under bed, or living room. But Kitchen Stove is the transition area for parts to shop, and shop to basement again.

One 8 x 10 snowmobile trailer with 3 engines of parts on it, waiting to get those up on roller shelves in the shop. Takes a lot of sorting organizing and time that's why they are still on the snow trailer.

If you guys keep car parts under the bed, and in the closet...then where do you keep your firearms?

have parts in the basement, office, bedroom & even the kitchen...….. when we lived in an apartment. I built my 440 in the basement. busted every stair board on its way up!!! backed my truck up to the front step and loaded it out. took it to dads garage to install it. made it possible for me to work on it during the week and still spend time with my kids.

For me, i never got married, no wife or kids, stayed a bachelor, live alone, so having parts in the house for me, would be a perfectly normal thing.
Nobody telling me what to do, or not to do, in my living conditions.

I never brought home greasy, slimy, dirty, smelly, auto parts to rat hole away.
Since in the past, i was a wrenching, full time, auto mechanic, earning my living, i always has access to cleaning solvent tanks, pressure washers, cleaning cabinets, to get parts squeaky clean to be then stored away.
So i was always fortunate in that department.

I'll tell ya. It's too late for me. But my idea of "a place" is just like a couple I saw back in the HVAC (heating AC) days. Couple guys had 2, 5, 10 acres. Built a HUGE shop. And then added a slap "lean to" on one end (was going to be future office) but built living quarters in it "while they built the house."

Only I'd just build the living quarters!!!! Small place, "studio" with kitchenette, decent but small bath, and small but separate bedroom, and large "everything" room and call 'er good. Low maintenance, aluminum siding and roof, and a DOOR INTO THE SHOP LOLOL

I guess they are called a "shome" LOLOL

SHOME®: The Ultimate Pole Barn with Living Quarters | Greiner Buildings

And there is all kinds of ways.........partition off the rear of the shop, build living space "in the overhead" whatever.
