Ever since installing my Edelbrock 1406 on top of my LD4B, I have had hot start issues.

From the help on this website, it seems I should try a spacer first.

Do I need a 2nd carb gasket, so it goes manifold - gasket - spacer - gasket - carb? Or, will the spacer function as a gasket on its' own?

    Thank you in advance-

    Intake, gasket, spacer, gasket, carb.

Did you try a thick (.333) gasket alone?

      Edelbrock 9266
Its actually a heat insulator, not spacer.
      Installs without gaskets.
      Problem solved.

I did not try that - I actually ordered the item just below your entry! Looks like it should do the trick on its' own!

Is that listed as a heat insulator or insulating gasket?
Regardless, that is what I used on my rides.
        Works great!

Make sure your carb isn't leaking gas thru the venturi right after you shut it off when it's hot. This will cause a hot hard start issue too.

All AFB's should come with that gasket. When are we getting performance plastic intakes? Man, talk about weight saving and cost reduction....Screw the exhaust crossover.

I think GM made one like that stock? It wasnt a 3 layer but was more of a shield.

Serious thanks on this one, daily driving in Vegas with an eddy carb is challenging during the summer. I already tried a 1" spacer with sandwiched gaskets with some success. I just ordered this and can't wait to try it out.

Did they all not come from the factory with thick heat insulating gaskets????

                I thought they did....

I had the same problem. Thanks to the advice on FABO I used a Eddy 9266 and insulated the fuel lines, no more trouble!

                Rumble,
I believe they did, and through my research, the Ede gasket is the closest in thickness and material I could find.

The edelbrock gaskets help but it don't fix the problem, I have the same issue same intake and carb setup, you need to block off the heat crossover plate to eliminate the problem all the way, block it off it in the summer then unblock it in the winter. I have two motors same set up the one with the crossover blocked starts like a charm every time in the heat etc then other one with the cross over open gets heatsoak and the carb gets really hot.

Thin piece of sheet metal, has to be thinner than the intake gasket itself , just cut it to a little square and glue it to the head with silicon

The 9266 gasket and insulating sleeves on the fuel line fixed mine. All the way. And that's in the hot Florida sun. Pull the intake and block the crossover if you want. But I'd try the easy stuff first and see if it works.

Are you sure that gasoline isn't also percolating in the fuel pump? See Vapor Lock.
