Finally ready to install the new carpet I got from Classic. Question is should I use a glue on the entire floor or at edges only. If gluing what does everyone recommend?
Don't glue the carpet down.
If you ever need to remove it for any reason you will destroy it as it will tear up the jute backing .
The factory never glued carpet down.
lay it out in the interior and leave it for a day or two to flatten out. If it is two piece, install the back section first, then lay out the front.
If you are lucky enough to have access to a steam wand to help remove the shipping folds so much the better.
If you have a console shifter, cut a small slit to slip the shifter handle through and then trim the carpet around the shifter mount.
Align the seat bolt locations in the floor pan then, use a pencil style soldering iron to punch the holes through the carpet.
Pull the carpet up over the door sill pinch weld and trim level with it , then install the sill plates.
You may also need to trim the carpet where the kick panels are but that depends on where you got the carpet and if it was form fitted from the manufacturer.
If you have a floor dimmer switch, align that up as well and cut the hole for the grommet that should have been supplied. Its usually two piece with one part that installs from the front and presses into the part that goes in from the back side of the carpet
Tip 1 . Always cut the carpet from the back side with a new blade in a utility knife and use a really sharp pair of shears to trim.
Tip 2. (this one from Steve , 4speedragtop ) Use velcro on the console carpet pieces if you have one. Great if you have to service the shifter!
I use ACC Auto Carpets as I have used them twice with excellent results.
Cheers!
