I have a 70 Duster that I want to have my cellphone mounted so I can see it while I'm driving. Thinking about the ashtray area but looking for ideas from those that have done this. Thanks guys.
I got one of these from the flea market for my van. It works pretty good. Almost too good as it take some effort to remove it. Releasing the mechanism that secures the phone takes getting used to to as well. $8I use this on my Pickup. The second link is an improved version.

Don't. Really shitty idea. If I had my way, a phone mount the driver can see would be illegal, involving mandatory jail time.I have a 70 Duster that I want to have my cellphone mounted so I can see it while I'm driving. Hmmm... OK, glad you are not making the rules! There is no problem with *glancing* at a phone while driving. No different than glancing at the radio to change a station, etc.Don't. Really shitty idea. If I had my way, a phone mount the driver can see would be illegal, involving mandatory jail time.
That's the way its going here. Even at a stop light not supposed to look in either NJ or Pa, I forget which one, or maybe its both states.Don't. Really shitty idea. If I had my way, a phone mount the driver can see would be illegal, involving mandatory jail time.
Exactly. No difference at all. I have an app on my phone to show the AFR, RPM, and speed. I sometimes glance at that at different times to see what the engine is doing. I can either have the phone with the app open on the seat next (often sliding around) to me or have it stationary, which is safer by far. That's the way its going here. Driver is allowed to hands-free. One of these days I'll pick up a blue-tooth ear set for the occassional times I need to talk on the phone. I'm sure it would be equally effective for driving directions but that's not something I care to for.
Ironicly, I really don't see the difference between having a screen with a gps map in the dash and a map on a big cell phone. Maybe that is allowed by law, just not texting and watching youtube.

Good thing many of us live in a more civilized state than "Taxifornia"!If I'm ever in a collision with somebody with a phone mount, I sue em for every dime they've got!
Mine has a button you press to open then press to close. (automatic) Works great. Wirer less charge. Wire goes in the base of the holder.I got one of these from the flea market for my van. Glancing at a GPS display to verify where your next turn is, is WAY different than being involved in a two way text conversation, voice call, or watching a podcast/movie/cat video.
WAY different.
That's different
