Chevrolet 904 torqueflite ?

I saw this on racing junk. Anyone know the history of this trans. What vehicles was it on,what years etc. Why was it used. Enquiring minds want to know.

Yes, the 2.5 four cylinder was a GM engine

Like mentioned it's probably from an AMC of some sort. AMC used whatever parts they got the cheapest bid from that year so they varied greatly from year to year

AMC "All Motors Combined.." Pity in the later years, the Rebel Machine was a cool brick, and the TA Javelins were almost unbeatable.

Anyone know the story as too why GM did not source their own transmission

AMC had a contract with Chrysler to use the torqueflite. If you got a automatic in an AMC it was a torqueflite no matter what engine was in front of it.

GM didn't use it that I'm aware of, just AMC, as stated above

Postal Jeeps had these from about 1978 to the end of production. Used an Iron Duke 4 cylinder.
