Well I'm sure I'm not the first one, but I got my Doug Dutra written /6 rebuild and hot rod up paperback book preordered up on target online. $20.49 free delivery as opposed to barnes and noble $28 for it. And that's their 30% off sale price. Says I wont get it until mid February, but that's okay. I am wanting to get in the know with the /6 and I figure between the help of all the very experienced guys here and a couple books I can get there.

penstarpurist, let me stir up controversy by saying that, IMHO, although the Slixer was a fantastic engine dependability-wise, the heads were originally designed for economy and Ma Mopar never redesigned them, so they need one hell of a lot of porting work if you want it to breathe well.

I agree. We all realize it was a durable, economy engine. Has basically, has no NEW real aftermarket support, other than what is going into the turbo. And there lies its potential !? But it can be made to have better hp and torq with simple mods.
Us fans of the engine enjoy it for what potential it has, and I will also order Doug's book.
I hope Target does not go out of business before Feb!

No controversy from me, I am a long time mopar fan, but have honestly until recently never given the /6 a fair opportunity to be or not to be a good go to engine for anything. If it hadn't been for members here and their open reviews of its potential I would keep piling them up for scrap metal or parts for others cars. Now, I could be wrong but arent they (Chrysler) reintroducing the /6 to the new market of engines for the upcoming lineup of vehicles? I think this could create a stir of new appreciation for the old proven workhorses of the past. I'm ready to give the sixer a chance and I think and like Barbee6043 mentioned there's mods out there to wake it up. And after a conversation with halfafish I think I can achieve this within a reasonable budget. It wont replace the big block in my duster, but I bet it will be a good fun ride even if it doesn't beat anyone on the track or light to light. Lol.

          I have a D100 with an A833OD and it's a great daily driver. I highly recommend it.

Did you notice the chapter on the TorqStorm supercharger in the table of contents?
I went to the cartech website and searched for dutra to see if there was more info. Target won't ship to Australia so I have to buy direct from the publisher.

You're damn right it takes a lot of time to port the long runner, you gotta lay the turn back even more than 906 head. Its tricky getting up in there. A lot of grind. .stop and feel, stop and feel. In the end all you get is a head that will 200 cfm.... but a bottom end that wont rev up fast or high enough....almost undrivable on the street with any auto by the time you get enough camshaft.. oh and they DO NOT like high cylinder pressures on pump gas and start detonating after 155+psi , horrible chamber.

You make more power modifying, but the return is never worth more than the novelty of it....hell, a 225 Crankshaft weighs 85 lbs for christs sake.

I've seen them run fast too. Neat stuff.
Most bad ass slant was covered in 'Car Magazine', they cut holes in the head straight to the bowl, made a flanged set of tube runners and braised them into the head...added a carb to each, in a pacer late 70's. That's how you make that engine competitive....redesign its runners to flow some real cfm.

Yes. I have a 1/2 ton '86 I believe it was. Pulled the car trailer with B bodies. Also A833OD, went down the road great, but getting it rolling loaded always made me clutch nervous!!! Great truck for a half ton.

I have had maybe 5-6 square trucks, mostly 1 t. cummins.....I think the 94 up bodies are maybe tighter, but I love the old square ones. Can't beat them in a 12 valve Cummins!! I love them in the slant too, with the OD, just a different animal.

Or you can force the air in with a turbo-charger or super-charger. One youtube shows a 9.09 sec 1/4-mile in a slant w/ turbo, plus tubbed rear-end with big sticky tires. It is not easy to do either since no store-bought kits.
