Classic car people that make you CRAZY!??

-
I always hate the post ads that say “Testing the Waters” to see what they’re car is worth!

Either Google the F’ing thing to get an idea or put a price in it and move on!

Either you want to sell it or you don’t!!!!
If they have the damn car, they should know what it’s worth. It’s the flippers that buy something for a song and then turn it to gold when they go to sell it. My case in point…..

I bought this from a flipper, he bought it from the original owner, an 82 year old man. He paid $300, I bought it from him for $5k. Sorry to say that he didn’t know what he had and the thing is worth double what he charged me. Funny thing is that I called the original owner and he told me he sold if for $300. I was pissed. Not because I overpaid, but because he took full advantage of an old gentleman who undoubtably could’ve used the money. To the old guys credit, when I told him what I paid, he said…..”well, he made out on that deal, now didn't he?

I hate flippers.

Flippers work on margins. You made him a ton of cash.....he moved on, and he's made more, since. Tons of cars would have never hit the market, if not for flippers. Most people don't have the knowledge, money, or time to find cars or get them to market.

The guys that say I’ve got a 70 cuda for sale and have minimal info then say don’t waste my time. Find out it’s a 318 barracuda clone then get mad when you say you’re not interested now. Classic car dealers selling cars at the top of the market price and have incorrect **** allover it, no rad support blackout, parts store air filter, butchered wiring harnesses, stripes put on wrong etc

Pricing a car with absolutely no idea of what it is or how much it’s worth. I run into that daily, and try as I might, they stick to the price no matter what. Most people “think” they are in the hobby, but they’re not. You can have 10 of these cars and not be in the hobby, or you can have none and be deep into the hobby. Honesty with yourself should dictate where you are with this hobby.

I find it kinda funny when I’m talking to an owner of a car that’s for sale and I bring up well known facts about the car and they just glaze over. Items that should dictate the price of the car, or items not on the car that should also. I’ll say” does it have the 8 3/4 or a 7 1/4” and they have no idea, but price it like it has the 8 3/4”. Drives me nuts sometimes.
Classic car people that drive me crazy? OK so the question is, did THEY drive me crazy or was I already crazy!???? Dunno... but....

The lastest group is the guy that requires cash at purchase. I am old, wore out, with some med issues, and the general ask price of a project is way higher in Tx., than surrounding states. NO! 99% of them NEVER sell for such $, but they still ask that until maybe reality sets in. If ever. But a few...... So I look around the next states over. Over the decades I have bought more than a few old Mopar builders over the phone, from ad on MCG, back in the days of people mailing pics and actually talking to a guy over phone, pick upo the car a couple or so weeks later... before the net, and cell smart phone, and scamming became a bona fide business model. I will not drive 16 hours after a darn old car anymore. I will pay a hotshot hauler.

So I find a project I want, text the seller, sometimes they will actually, give me a cell to call. I explain the deal.
So the deal would be..We agree on a price, I email him a simple purchase agreement, spelling out the price, how I will send funds, check or wire transfer, the transport company involved,, the time window it will be picked up, details...he is to email me a copy of his title, front and back, DONE. Easy right?

This is too complicated, too scary, too ?????? for 4 guys in a row!

There is a classic Porsche local that has been for sale for a long time....$60k. The ad says 'Right now there is a float sticking in one of the carbs. So it's flooding itself. And needs 2 new batteries.'. I see this all the time "just needs a little work'. We all know there is a lot more wrong with it than that otherwise they would spend the money and fix it.

I could not agree more, and I've posted about this myself a couple times in the past.

Some people! :realcrazy:

A lady had a vinyl roof slant Duster car, the vinyll had been removed, and easy to see in the pics holes in the roof you could stick your whole hand thru. Ad said, just a little rust. Price was $4500!
I could not help myself. I messaged and asked how much would be considered a lot of rust!???
Yes bless her heart, she did reply back and I could tell she was "irritated"!
She did inform me the holes could be larger, and it was an "easy" fix if I wanted it "perfect!" :BangHead: :steering:
