I have a 1964 dart Gt. 273 4-speed installed new clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing my question is when jumping on it going through the gears the clutch pedal is harder to push down than when taking it easy driving around. Did I do something wrong on installation no other noticeable things going on shifts fine just harder to press clutch pedal down. Thanks for the help in advance.

Sounds like the pressure plate has counterweight. That means the more RPM's you turn, the more pressure plate pressure you have.

What clutch is it? If it's a Borg & Beck, they can have no CW, 3 roller CW or 6 roller CW.

I can't think of a time where in your application I'd use more than 3 roller CW maximum.

Performance clutches for that application are few and far between. Originally a 9 1/2" clutch. There are some scalloped pressure plate so you can use a 10" disc. Brewers has those and they were used in vans back in the day.

That is what I’m running a scalloped clutch from brewers could it possible be in the adjustment on the clutch? This is the second set-up from brewers Had no problem with the first one. Thanks anyway for the input

Take off the inspection cover and look at the gap between the throw out bearing and the pressure plate fingers. I run 1/8''-3/16'' gap. Cycle the clutch pedal a few times and recheck.

Thank you all for posting these questions and answers.
Everytime I work on my dart.
I research here... first.
My question today is for a stock 1964 273 4spd dart gt. What is the bolt size for early stock flywheels? I understand it will be going to 6 bolts from 3
I seem to read there are 2 sizes over the years
I'm doing the 10" clutch conversion.
On my stock 1964 flywheel. I want to pre order the required bolts.
Thank you for your time.

Brewers has the special bolts you need.

This is what the Auburn 9 1/2” pressure plate looks like. It attaches with three 5/16” special shouldered bolts that Brewers has, referenced by 66fs above.

The 10” Borg & Beck pressure plate looks like the one pictured in the post by Toolmanmike.

I have done this swap in my 67 Barracuda, it’s very simple. You need the pressure plate, the bigger disc and three additional special shouldered bolts. Everything else should be the same.

It’s a good upgrade, good luck with the swap!
