Howdy fellas. I’m new to the mopar life. I save a 66 valiant from dying a slow death. While I drive her around and all, she still has a problem I can’t figure out. For some reason the whole column will spin to shift. Like I can pull the lever back and then down to shift, or just pull the lever down. I assume whoever put a Grant wheel on it did something. The photos will show normal, whole column with arm not moved down in one, and then how it should be. Any help I’ll surely appreciate

It looks like the screws that secure that upper collar fell out.
They are under the steering wheel mount piece.
You should see where they go easily enough.

So get a puller and pull that bracket off and it’ll be under there? Sorry if I seem dumb. This isn’t anything I’ve messed with before

After taking it off and not seeing any thing, is this what holds the column in place? Seems it shouldn’t leave the groove.

Any of you fellas know if there’s a bolt of some kind that pushes down from the topside of the column above where that bracket is?

I would think you can put it in the proper location and tighten the two bolts you see on the bottom.
Or take that brace all the way off and flaten it in a vice a bit.

So I was in the same mindset. Bent it up more for engagement, but there’s still slop allowing the column to roll out of that grove. I can feel what seems to be a bolt hold on the topside. I’m curious if there’s supposed to be a bolt there for adjustment maybe like a set screw deal.

Take the bracket off and try to wrap a thin strip of rubber around that portion of the column, bolt the bracket back on and tighten it up.
